Thanks for that doctor. I'm glad the PTB are turning their attention to us. Personally I think it'd be cool if there could be a dialogue not only between us and you, but between ourselves as a blogtastic group. Perhaps a way for us to reply to each other's comments more simply, or even an email notification system if someone reacts to our post?

When oh when oh when will the Kermode uncut site stop using white text against a very bright white background? This is why people don't go to subtitled films, how can we start a revolution if basics aren't done properly.

Easy-to-use?! I find this site rather easy-to-use so far. In fact, technically, this site doesn't need to much over-hauling, just a better player for the videos would be nice.

Well it seems to work in both Firefox and Safari as long as you use www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/markkermode

and not www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/markkermode/reviews as perhaps my Safari bookmark was set to

Well how about an option to remove an entry when you realize you've made an incorrect post (like I just did).

Also an option to edit so you can correct those spelling mistakes (or grammar mistakes now that the Doctor is pouncing on those).

You can time limit these options so edits/deletes don't become too confusing.

I'd definately want the ability to edit and delete posts. Also, I empathise with people who have trouble reading white on black; there should be an option to flip the colours around. You could also use a 'reply' function which allows threaded posts and a little HTML formatting allowing users to use italics, underline, bold, etc.

Other than that, the blog is perfectly functional, and I don't see the need to add too many new features to it. I've seen loads of websites lose their way and forget the old adage of "less is more."

And it's also really bugging me that dashes don't show up when I use them (-).

Hyphens work, though apparently.

Is it my imagination, or are you parodying something here that I can't put my finger on?

This isn't related to the post or any of the comments above, but I just have to communicate my disappointment at having to tell your nice production assistant that I couldn't accept a ticket for the Film Club.

I simply couldn't face the domestic consequences of naffing off to see the two Drs on Fathers' Day, when my family have been away for the last week.

On the technical side - I often have trouble getting the videos to play on Safari, so if that glitch was fixed it would be nice.

We definitely need some kind of 'quoting' feature, which would help develop more of a community spirit and promote more discussion.

At the moment it just seems to be random unconnected posts, but the best debate on here, notably the one on piracy, came about because bloggers were directly interacting with each other, which can only be a good thing.

Just keep up the good work. Thanks for the entertainment.

Yeah I agree on that. I suffer from Irlen Syndrome, and the black/grey text element does give me a bit of a headache. If we could customise the colours to our choosing,that would be good.

Could definitely do with an edit/delete option somewhere. I hate it when I read one of my comments and then realise I have made a spelling mistake or missed a word out. An edit button would be great! Or maybe a preview post option instead?

Also agree that you can get rid of the complain about this comment bit. Has anyone actually ever complained about a post? I come to this blog to speak or listen to like-minded movie buffs like myself, and wouldn't dream of complaining. This isn't IMDB is it? IMDB is full of absolute nutcases in my opinion. Seriously, is anyone else frightened when they read the stuff that get's said on there?

Although I doubt the Kermode blog will ever become a wretched hive of scum and villainy, the "Complain about this comment" function is, I imagine, just a precautionary measure. It's good to have it there, just in case.

I don't think the design's much easier to use really, to be honest - it's a bit non-standard (eg there's nothing much simpler than seeing previous posts in chronological order - that, combined with a simple standard tagging system so we could easily find all posts about, say, Jason Isaacs, would be useful, and easily see which tags apply to the post we are reading). Maybe I'm being stupid, but what are the "topical" posts? The categories are a good idea but need work,I can't even remember if they were there before or not :)

Also, due to the fiery debates which are a regular feature on this blog, it might be nice to be able to easily quote a previous comment, or comment on a comment, although that would all be getting close to a discussion forum I guess.... can of worms?

Oh yes, and I second the person who asked for the "edit your comment" functionality. Probably a pain for the moderators, though. But being able to edit or delete a post made in haste would be good!

I tried to embed using the code but it didn't happen for me. I wanted to do , as a test more than anything else. It's quite interesting. But it should have appeared below can you embed but didn't.

Improvements are surprisingly pleasing...greater clarity on page layout, aesthetically now looks more like a blog than some sort of weird forum & the palette is bold without resorting to CBeebies. Perhaps most refreshingly, it's less blokey; the old page did rather scream masculine with a capital M.

I agree that the greater the level of interaction here, the more interesting it will inevitably become. Much as this may dismay you, Dr K, this means ultimately Kermode Uncut becoming less about you & more about the material & issues which are summarily suggested through debate. It therefore becomes a site which you host, direct (if you will) but your video-blogs serve principally as the impetus from which further debate flourishes rather than the slightly bald "here's what I think, now I dare you to respond" set-up which currently operates, whereby within 3 days the issue is consigned to the forgotten files of cyber-space & everybody is prodded sideways in a totally unrelated direction.

As suggested, a self-editing facility would be appreciated, the link text colour really should be something more generic (ie blue, & then red to signify to the reader the links he/she has previously selected)& a tagging set-up of some sort would likely save time (p'raps the bods in the bowels of the Beeb might care to take a look at how the excellent Wordpress refine these functions). Also, a general plea to everyone who derives any pleasure from this site - please don't let anyone turn it into the idealogical bore-fest which has become the fate of the Newsnight blog,

Lastly, I'd like to forward a motion, given Dr K's considerable national clout, to promote & prioritise the work of any charities which aim to raise the profile of film in education & engage swathes of new generations with the creative & critical process. It would be wonderful if room can be found on this site for such charitable organisations to promote their work, post important updates or bulletins & generally canvas support from every possible network. Dr K could either choose the organisations he deems worthy of support himself or it could be something which is agreed upon by all those currently blogging. What think you? For the record, I propose the following for support: Film Education, & their hugely important National Schools Film Week, .

I like the new layout fine, but this video is the best I've seen on Kermode Uncut so far - no funky cuts, no weird lighting, just M. Kermode ca. 1965. Brilliant! Keep them coming, The Good Doctor.

It's good that you can now switch to another topic without navigating through [b] Previous | Main | Next [/b] options, by going to the list at the bottom of the page. It would be nice if that list was ordered by most recent response (I am guessing it isn't). Having the number of responses in parens is good but trying to remember those is the only way you can tell if something new has been posted in another topic without actually opening it and scrolling all the way to the end. As an alternative how about the date of the last post instead of or in addition to the number in parens?

I think the new version is really great, does work faster; it's nice the picture no longer jumps and stalls! But one comment, why was there all of those scratches and things on your picture? It was like one of those old time instructional movies from the fifties or something! That seems weirdly old fashioned and pre-computer if you ask me, and you most certainly did. Well I hope that's not going to be a feature of all your future blogs. I'm sure you'll get the glitch figured out.

Yep. Big plus on the speed of loading, agree totally there. Nice design actually, layout is absolutely spot on. Get an automatic little paragraph indent on the first line of the comment which is....a bit weird. I'd try and make the link text colour a bit more prominent and a Guardian style comments editor would be grand, check it out, it's beautiful. The speed of loading was definitely an issue though and it's much better now. So thumbs up but of course I always want more...

Looks good and easy to use. I would like to have a search function though. That way I can have a look for specific reviews without hassle. Blogging software such as Wordpress have search functions installed on them, it shouldnt be difficult to implement.

They moved the 'sign in' link to a place which is harder to see, but left the 'sign out' in the same place.

Maybe now, it would be better to have the sign in on the main page instead of after you have chosen a topic.

Perless, don't know if that was directed at me ("5:") but this video was not restricted to the UK only. My problem turned out to be an incorrect link stored as a bookmark.

BTW there shouldn't be any issue with the sound recording of the fifties, I have great quality sound recordings back to at least the forties. Stephen Fry did a great 3 part series on the advances in sound recording made since the thirties called "Third Reich and Roll". Worth checking out.

The only thing Mark didn't need to change for this retrospective vignette was his hair.
