The Box is officially my film of the year.

I saw Descent 2 the other day. What a disappointing and silly film. Apart from all the more obvious errors with this movie, there is a very basic recurring error the director makes. For a horror film with shocks, you need to make the shocks unexpected, and make them hit the mark. Unfortunately, he signposts all the shocks by draining all the background noise and plunging the audience into total silence in the seconds preceding each shock. This happens about 5 or 6 times, and I knew what was coming the first time! You'd have thought a horror movie director, first time or otherwise, would know better. Its almost as tired as the 'small bathroom cabinet with a mirror on it' scene you often get in horror movies. You know...someone opens the cabinet, there's something scary inside (shock number 1), then closes the cabinet, and there's something scary in the mirror (shock number 2).

Its not the horror classic the 1st one is but no one expected it to be.
What it is, is a great down & dirty, fun, gory, sexy nasty horror flic; pure cinematic catnip.

Hmmm think we'll just agree to disagree on this one. I found myself knowing what was coming, and wishing death on all the major characters, then being curiously unsatisfied when they did die. Whereas the gore in the first film made you wince, the gore in this one was gross just for the sake of being gross. If you're gonna make a horror comedy, then make sure its funny at least. what you're describing is 'drag me to hell', not this film.

Have you seen Michael Gladis, who is in the television series Mad Men? He is pretty much Welles' doppelganger. When I heard this movie was being made I was almost sure he'd just be cast just on that alone.

I did quite like DRAG ME TO HELL.
TheDescentP2 was a blatant "gross for being gross" movie, a good giggle; to be fair Dhrubra of the 6 people in the screening i was the only one who was laughing.
If your after scary horror then to this date i've never seen a scarier film than JAWS, but you've probably seen that.

I totally agree with your review of Me and Orson Wells - but was disappointed by the behaviour of some teenage girls who had obviously come for Zac Ephron and then realised that this was not "Me and Orson Wells and a lot of High School Kids in Red Shorts singing and Dancing." They chatted and texts and ran in and our all the way through, while the rest of us sat and tried to ignore them. I was pleasantly surprised by Zac Ephron's performance. It felt like a small British film (even though American in content) and that is a compliment.
