I really have no idea why this movie was nominated, and moreover why Clooney is nominated. It's a movie about him playing clooney.Good review though doc.

I can't see the point in these one video reviews. I much prefer to watch the entire show, and the interviews before on iPlayer.

Ive saw film at a film festival back in November, and what I got from it, was that this charecter played by clooney is offered a chance at this different lifestyle and he takes it, but the result (spolier alert) is that he returns to his old cynical lifestyle.. This film is not as good as Thank you for smoking, but its one of the better mainstream movie. And yes clooney is playing clooney, but i thought Vera Farmiga was excellant.

Dr Kermode.. how miserable are you? i went to watch this with my better half and i think you have missed the point of the film...my wife only seemed to see the romantic? side (similar to yourself-or finding a heart as you put it) i on the other hand was much more taken with the more serious part of the film the actual effects on peoples lives at the moment of redundancy..less flippant(surprisingly) than michael moore treats it in roger and me..
as for criticism of george clooney..most actors will do what they need to do. what they are directed to do...the film also addressed that issue that the young have all the answers very adaquately.. the women in this film were exceptionally well cast- though not always likable. i could go on but it was a pleasant evening in the cinema compared to many of the more recently hyped big budget films or depreesing films that have been released. tom

I have just finished watching Up In The Air and what I got from it was "Quirky but bland". George Clooney as himself, A quirky, geeky girl who challenges George Clooney's world view, and love interest that changes his world view. It's pretty basic stuff, there are a few jokes that are rattled in there that made me breathe out half a laugh, but on the whole it was very dull.
I don't think this film will win many awards if any, George will not win an oscar for this, if anything his performance in The Men That Stare At Goats was clearly the better performance which warrants any merit for an award.
Oh well, let's just all hope and pray that Andy Serkis will steal the show at the oscars to win best actor and then shout in name of comedy edge and a tribute to Ian Dury "I AM SPASTICUS!".
