The Reporters: US mid-terms

Richard Greene

About Richard Greene

I began my career as a journalist in Prague, where I lived from 1991 to 1999, working both on the staff of the weekly Prague Post and as a freelance. I covered President Vaclav Havel, including his trips to the Middle East and Balkans, as well as city politics, theatre, music and film.

I came to the UK to study international relations at the London School of Economics in 1999, and joined the 主播大秀 News website in 2000 after I graduated.

In my time at the 主播大秀 I have written about everything from combat stress among Iraq veterans to film and baseball (the hopeless, hapless Chicago Cubs remain my first love).

After a one-year career break spent studying Russian and drinking tea in Azerbaijan, I spent 2004 focused on the US elections, mostly from London but also on a two-week road trip around the country.

I moved to the US in April of this year (coming 鈥渉ome鈥 for the first time in nearly 15 years) for a one-year posting as the News website鈥檚 reporter/producer in the Washington bureau. I am married with two children 鈥 the younger of whom launched only days before this blog.

Please! Kerry did not say the US troops were lacking intelligence. He said something that is unfortunately all too true: that the great burden of Bush's (and Blair's) arrogant folly is on the backs of many young people who did not have the luxury of a great education.
Many of our US troops come from backgrounds that offered them very little to look forward to and joining the military was a way out.

The truth is not always pretty.

If Richard Greene had actually LISTENED to or READ Kerry's comment, he would have realized that Kerry was criticizing Bush and the Administration, not the US troops. It's ignorance at the top that has caused the morass in IRAQ, and we all know it. Our Rovian Administration jumped on his statement, twisted it in their usual, despicable, lying, way to try to turn it to their political advantage. Hopefully the American people are waking up to the ways of the GOP. It is sickening that these rogues who never wore a uniform鈥 or served their time swilling beer and running their Dad鈥檚 political campaigns, can try to discredit a veteran and a patriot.

I have over twenty years as both an officer and enlisted. I have two masters degrees. His comments were offensive and betray his true feelings about the U.S. military.
