Not Trescothick

Martin Gough | 16:31 UK time, Friday, 24 November 2006

If bystanders at Sydney airport on Thursday thought Marcus Trescothick had made a dramatic return to Australia, they would not have been the first to make the mistake.

The photographer sent to Heathrow a fortnight ago to take a pic of , victim of a stress-related illness, got the wrong man.

Instead of the England opening batsman, he clicked his shutter on IT executive Justin O'Sullivan, and sent his work out on the international photo wires.

O'Sullivan was mistaken for Trescothick by a photographer this week got hold of O'Sullivan intentionally as he returned home from a business trip.

"It was about 5am, I got off the flight at Heathrow, saw some flashes and I thought they were doing something behind me," he said.

"I hope I've had my 15 minutes of fame and it can all go away."

That poor snapper is in illustrious company, though.

A former England great - who went on to become MCC president - once congratulated on an outstanding century, in fact achieved by Trescothick the previous day.

O'Sullivan's photo is now only available on the wires with a big red cross in the middle of it, accompanied by the message "please stop using and remove all copies of this image".

If England get desperate towards the end of the series, though, they may be in luck.

O'Sullivan told the newspaper: "I'm a South African, I watched the cricket last year and I'll try to get to the New Year's Test in Sydney."

Thats Ashley Giles and Marcus Trescothick's lovechild.

I saw this photo on the Ö÷²¥´óÐã website the other week, the day after Tresco returned home and I said to my beloved girlfriend Alex, ''That's not Tresco! They've got a picture of some random!... But if it is, he's BLOODY ill!!!''

Ha he does kinda look like Tresco but i wouldn't have made the mistake if i'd have been the photographer.. He does look like him but only abit and only looks like him in the photo in this article when the light done him some favours BUT the picture on the sydney

I for one wouldn't have believed it for the slightest that Tresco would be captured in the media since his return back from Australia and in my opion the guy looks more like Henry Gale from Lot than Tresco!

Now while I very much doubt this will happen, all sports are unpredictable. The Aussies may think they are being oh so smart not enforcing the follow-on. But, what if England do bat through the next two days. Instead of humiliation, England will be back in the phsycoligical drivers seat.

Well if that was to some how amazingly occur, then my endless chants of "tent pegs tent pegs" would be utterly meaningless yet still seemingly outlandishly humorous.

I feel confident though.

As I have advocated for quite a while now- hopefully the England coach and chief selector, Fletcher and Graveney, will now resign or be quickly removed. They are clearly quite unable to motivate or inspire our players
