TRACKLISTING. MONDAY 09/01/2012
On tonight’s show we welcomed Evan from into the studio to fill us in on the Norwich/Woodbridge band’s latest exploits. The sanguine four-piece have been busy in the studio of late and we heard the lead single, ‘Eyes’, from their new album Soap, out on January 23rd. The track’s video just got uploaded to YouTube and you can view it .
Our live fix came courtesy of Manchester troubadour , who provided us with two acoustic tracks recorded for Sean McGinty’s Ö÷²¥´óÐã Introducing In Lancashire show.
Short but definitely not sweet, we heard the brilliantly bratty Ramones-inflected punk of on the track ‘Now Now Now’, which also features Jane Wiedlin from legendary band . And we have to thank for satisfying our sweet tooth this week with ‘Outta Sight’. Consider us smitten - we can’t resist those sugary harmonies and that George Harrison-esque guitar solo.
There must be something in the water in South Shields if the fragile, elegiac sounds of and are anything to go by. Both bands are from the same town in the North-East of England and both are equally adept at masterfully embracing the melancholic.
Recommendations from and Bobby Friction are always a treat for the ears and this week’s crop did not disappoint. Ruth’s tip, ‘Ghost Mountain You And Me’ by , is all cascading waves of guitar and splashing cymbals. On the other hand ‘Bung Ho’ by Pakistani-American Desi outfit , recommended by Bobby, is a stunning piece of rock ‘n’ roll freak-outery. You can download their self-title album absolutely free from their website.
And this week we saved the best till last - a superb piece of ambient electro called ‘Park’ from Bristol based music producer and apprenctice piano technician . The whole show stays online for a week thanks to iPlayer via the links on our home page - and don't forget to subscribe to our podcast to make sure you get your albumsworth of free tracks from the show every weekend.
