鈥淟isten to more new music鈥� is a pledge unlikely to have been number 1 on many people鈥檚 New Year鈥檚 resolutions list for 2012. And what a crying shame that is, especially given the many, although unproven, health benefits that come with listening to new music.

Of course, if that promise happened to be top of your list, then 主播大秀 Introducing With Tom Robinson should form a vital part of your commitment to new music. For one very simple reason alone- that every artist we play is currently burrowing their own way underneath the radar, with the talent to break out sooner or later.

As evidence, we give you , who featured on this very show way before becoming the 主播大秀鈥檚 Sound of 2010 and selling over 620 000 copies of her debut album Lights. 鈥淣ot Following You", a recording Ellie made back in 2009 that has never been released, but can be downloaded for free as part of our two hour New Year Mixtape - available via the podcasts link at bbc.co.uk/6musicintroducing .

Looking forward to 2012, we鈥檝e welcome major new talent to the studio to discuss the experiences that helped shape her singular sound. As well as this, we give a first play on the show to Fluke from her current EP .

Another set of musicians sure to grab 2012 by the scruff of the neck - in their own calm and measured way - are Newcastle 6-piece who we've been playing and supporting since long before they were even a twinkle in 's eye. from The Evening Show on 主播大秀 Newcastle has given us two acoustic session tracks, each encapsulating the band鈥檚 wistful, disarming beauty.

We also have offerings from three emerging artists, , and , who each exhibit a familiar kind of British songwriting that is brooding, expansive and lyrically sincere. Elsewhere, in 鈥楾he Lynx鈥� by , the swirling, combative MC skills of are pitted against the forceful vocal tones of frontwoman Kemi, in a song that forces itself upon the listener. And in 鈥楥ontina鈥� by , this London 5-piece (beloved of Ruth Barnes) channel the spirit of the B-52鈥檚 鈥楻ock Lobster鈥� via sinister garage rock.

Then there鈥檚 鈥楤roken Brain鈥�, an arresting listen brimming with ideas courtesy of , the musical project of the Leeds based songwriter known as Wu. The expert production work of , who has also worked with such other Leeds luminaries as and , is all over this short but ambitious track.

So there you have it - a foolproof way to be sure of keeping at least one of your New Year鈥檚 resolutions.
