From our reporters in Germany

Little slice of Italy

matthew_roberts.gifCOLOGNE - We're waiting for the Italiam team to arrive in Germany tonight, but in the meantime we took the chance to have a look around their hotel, which is owned by an Italian straight out of the Soprano's.

Toni Pille (pronounced Pele, which really confused us) has somehow struck a deal with the Italian FA to house the team in his hotel in the industrial city of Duisburg. Whilst a very nice hotel - and undoubtedly doing the best Latte tasted since we've been in Germany - it is on a roundabout, bordered by a trainline, and is certainly not on the same Schloss-type scale most of the other teams have chosen. You wouldn't chose an afternoon in Duisburg if you could avoid it either.

Apparently, Italian Coach Lippi has been to check on the hotel three times and feels the squad are there to work. Quite what the Serie A stars will make of the back to basics approach we'll find out later - but there's no doubt Mr Pille has struck the deal of his life.

Back in Cologne last night we did try Kolsch as has been suggested on the blog. A glass of it is only 0.2 litres - not much more than a thimble - so England supporters will have to keep the waiters busy when then arrive for the Sweden game.

With the 主播大秀 WC newsite helpfully informing us when Rooney got on the plan in Germany, got off the plan in manchester, entered the clinic, exited the clinic then why on earth were we not informed when he took his sock off?

The waiters in Cologne are generally busy - they will give you a new glass without asking, so if you want to stop you'll have to tell them!

It will be very helpful for the Italian team to reside in a hotel which is owned by an Italian because he will be very concern about his countrymen. The most interesting thing is that the waiters should be very busy for the English fans on providing drinks.
I hope, some other interesting news about the other major teams will be publishing in the coming days.
Thank you for giving the background news of the world cup.

Dear Matthew,
if you cannot avoid it to come back to Duisburg again, I would like to invite you to have a "currywurst" and a glass of "konig pilsener". I am sure you will like the second one. Be welcome in Germany and feel as a guest staying with friends. Thomas

Hi Thomas,

I might take you up on the Konig Pilsener as you can drink Kolsh all night and still feel no effects (not that I have of course !). Not so sure about the curryurst though, as can't face any more meat after too much Bratwurst. We're in Duisburg for next couple of days so let us know the best place for lunch - we went to the place by the museum in the Inner Harbour which was good. Cheers, Matt
