The lack of animosity between England & German fans (so far) is one of the more encouraging things about the World Cup this year. Let's hope it holds out if we play them.

The so-called animosity between England and Germany was only created and since has been maintained by the English tabolid papers! Maybe thanks to this world cup being hosted in Germany (actually the British media calls it the Reich) even the English press is getting chance to realize the war is over for now more than 60 years (or three generations)!

Looks like no one is missing the Tartan Army after all ! :O(

as a german i am nearly a little bit dissapointed from the british fans. i expected them marching in goose steps, wearing PICKELHAUBEN and holding their right arm up. whats wrong with them ?
did THE SUN fail in creating the usual hostile climate against us huns? no more blitzkrieg ? shame on you guys, you were always good for a laugh :)

but i hope you will be back in good shape when we beat you in the finals

I was in N眉rnberg yesterday at the fan zone for the England game. Same thing there. People just having fun (actually even making fun of themselves). Florian, there were a few England fans wearing WW II helmets, but nobody took them serious. But there's one funny thing I realized. When walking around, somebody bumped into me. I looked up: English guy, shaved head, huge muscles, head red from the sun, typical candidate to be picked out by police for being a potential danger. He looks at me completely embarrased and mumbles "Sorry, mate" before quickly getting out of my way. And he wasn't the only one looking and acting like that. So even so they try do dress as if they are dangerous (maybe to keep up with their reputation?), but act like really nice, normal people. BTW, most of the people from the UK I met so far all over the world were nice and we always had a good time. Despite newspapers like Sun and Bild. So they should get over it already...

i know a lot of english people myself and can seriuosly tell you that most of them are really nice (if sober :)
hope you got the irony in my last comment.
but regarding THE SUN, i really enjoy the rubbish written there, among my favourite was an article about the german police using mini tanks (do they really ?) which was headlined something like "britskrieg - german officials will fight british fans with mini tanks"
do you really wanna miss such a masterpiece ?

Englishman responding here as requested. Right, gotta say Florian, you made me chuckle - you must have had a rush of blood to the head on a break from making a very efficient machine or car!! I didn't think the German's had a sense of humour!

Er, I read the Sun pretty much every day and I'll be honest, not for the sarcasm but for the ease on the eye. Ze Germans have had their fair share of stick but read closely kids, pretty much every country gets stick off the British press - none more so than our own players, polititians, coaches, the Yanks, the Aussies, the lot - you're not alone.

But I think even the Sun is sick of the yob perception we got. I have 2 tattoos, one of the top of the shankly gates at anfield and I dont mind getting my body out watching the football. But I want a tan! And I haven't thrown a punch since I was 14 at school.

I think they are learning from the Ashes series last year. Back your team, respect the opposition and let bygones be bygones. So, in answer to your question - maybe the world might see us as what we are soon - good lads, good fun and good supporters. But every nation has a minority, press or no press.

sounds like the "We are pope" headline in Bild last year... :-) Didn't even know that our police has tanks... except for the gas in their cars. Well, I guess you're right. Without them, we wouldn't have that much fun stuff to read. BTW, even the drunk Brits were nice yesterday. Maybe it was the Franconian beer. ;-)

You're right. Each country has a minority of idiots we need to deal with. And the best way is the way it's currently happening here in Germany. People of all nations just partying together, ignoring the idiots. BTW, that lead to a new record last night in N眉rnberg. After the game the party continued in the city center and on the market square the fans were able to empty 32 barrels of beer. 50 liters each. In 14 minutes!!! And as I mentioned ealier, no incidents at all...

It is very good looking that English and German fans are dancing with each other and football brings them at the same point. Supporters will give their all effort to make their players feel to be in their hometown and inspire the players to play for the country. English fans are dreaming their second world cup victory.
One can find differences among the teams in terms of quality, skill etc but in terms of fans and their activities there is no difference among the teams because they want to be in top to make their team winner.

I'm surprised people expected a more hostile German fan crowd. To be honest, I've never met any German fan with a particularly hostile attitude towards England (neither towards Holland, believe it or not).

On the other hand, I also think the German fans could relax a little more about German stereotypes. I don't think the British take it that seriously. Sometimes I even find these jokes quite funny.

Can the 主播大秀 find an "umlaut" to stick over their 'u' and call Nuremberg by its modern name, N眉rnberg?

The stereotypes perptuated by the sorry UK media are in the minority. I lived in Germany for four years and as with every other country of the world, there are good and not so good. Personally I loved it, the people I met and chose to spend my time with were open and friendly, the success of the WC is no surprise. Uber Alles!!
