I was not happy with the comments we were getting from Gary Liniker and team about England . What they need to consider is the England team is not for one person but for the team as a whole.

Negative comments may destroy team spirit in the England camp and we need that not to happen.

Above all 2006 is for England!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you get the chance, go to Heidelberg and visit the 'Vetters' bar and restaurant. They have a beer called Vetter 33 which is 33% ABV, which holds the world record.

If you had had a McClaren instead of a SVAN you would not have been in that pickle!

Some must see areas normally not very well known to the English audience between Frankfurt and Stuttgart are:

- Deidesheim and Roth unter Rietburg in the Palatinate mountain area also called the tuscany of Germany

- the Carl Benz football stadium built in Mannheim (where Carl Benz, inventor of the automobile used to live and work). The stadium itself is just like any other stadium but it was purpose-built for then-Bundesliga team SV Waldhof-Mannheim, who, just upon opening of the stadium got downgraded to 2nd league, then 3rd, then whatever regional league. The only matches that have ever taken place in that stadium are the Honours Squad of the German national football team vs. Celebrities headed by Michael Schumacher on Thursdays before the Hockenheim Formula 1 race (Hockenheim is nearby Mannheim) and just before this year's worldcup Klinsmann's squad played FC Luckenwalde, a 3rd league Eastern German team who won this at some kind of sweepstakes...

Just a quick comment on Andreas's suggestion above. I lived in Mannheim for a year in 2002 and watched SVW Mannheim vs Mainz in Bundesliga 2 in the Carl-Benz Stadion. I'm sure up until relegation to the regional leagues recently they played in the Carl-Benz Stadion.

Anyway bloggers - visit it, it's awesome for a regional league side, 28,000 capacity!

You can't go all the way to germany without a trip in the campervan around the Nurburgring. 15 euro's a lap and 172 corners. It's a public toll road so no excuses !

Try Heildelberg which is "somewhere between Frankfurt and Stuttgart" and as well as being a very pleasent place to be has what is claimed to be the worlds biggest Wine Barrel (in the castle) and a world cup wine tasting tour (https://www.cvb-heidelberg.de/e3215/e3773/index_eng.html).

If the world cup action is dull at least you can come back with a well-earned headache!

2nd league doesn't count. They used to have their own stadium called South-West-Stadium which was perfectly good for Bundesliga all the way up the mid-90s and would have been even more suitable for 2nd league. But for some strange reasons nobody understood (not even them I suppose) they were told they needed a new, "real" stadium. Anyway, there never was a real (1st) Bundesliga match played at Carl-Benz's...

Oh, and by the way, the Mannheim Schloss (castle) is Germany's largest by size, today hosting the University. It's just a few sq. meters smaller than Versailles!

If you are are your way between Frankfurt & Stuttgart then you should not miss a vist to the Air Museum. There are 2 Concordes on show. One is English/French and the other is the Russian Conkordiski. You can see them from the motorway.

Mike Connor is talking about the "Auto und Technik Museum" in Sinsheim, just off motorway A6 near Walldorf, where the Costa Rican team is headquartered during the world cup (Holiday Inn near the SAP headquarters). Heidelberg's old town is a really charming place to be. Nestling underneath the imposing schloss, there are dozens of great bars and restaurants. For an interesting traditional meal, try the Goldener Hecht right by the old bridge.

Alternatively, a lively evening can be had at the Kulturbrauerei, a restaurant/hotel with its own brewery.

Do go to the schloss as well ... some great views of a very scenic part of Germany.

Just try to avoid the "new town" - very dull modern architecture, although the area around the university is pretty bustling when it is term-time.

Travelling between Frankfurt and Stuttgart?

Visit Bad Wimpfen. This is a fairy tale, medieval town - complete with castle - high on a ridge overlooking the Neckar river.

Old Medieval houses and shops, narrow streets, more than one castle - this is York, Chester and Hollywood's idea of Medieval Europe rolled into one.

When you go through the inner city, you'll notice that a number of shops have supernatural themes, and are perhaps named something like "Hexenstube" (Witches' Shop).

Strange but true and this deserves more investigation. Perhaps Svan will transform into a luxury Winnebego after your trip here! Which after the night in the car park is worth the trip on the off chance it will.

Darmstadt is a good place to visit. Itrs a really old/modern mix with a gorgeos indoor modern market. Inside is a frite shop, which I consider to be the best in germany!
Mannheim and Ludwigshafen are also worth a visit, with gorgeous views of the river ( the towns are on opposite sides of the smae river but are in two different bundeslander.)
I also agree that Sinsheim is worth a visit. The diplays are quite sunning and the range of stuff there is really intersting, even for a girl!

Just vist the local guest houses.
Walk straight in and sit yourself down on the table the all the gongs and derr ect in the centre.Then ring the gong or the bell a few times and makke a lot of friends.The more times the bell is rang the more friends you will have.

I worked in Dortmund 1978/79 for the army as a youth worker and lived in the Civilian Mess, Dortmund Garrison. just me and 40 single female teachers.happy days. Why dont you visit the old place and see if you can have a beer in the bar. Its not far from the Westphalan stadium, just off the main road ;should be easy enough to find.Its an impressive building that apparently was a barracks for a german cavalry regiment at some stage.

Sorry but you can forget about visiting the Bar,i've been living in Dortmund for 30 Years now and can assure you that the Barracks all no longer exist.
Still some good bars here though!!

You can have a tour to the restaurant to and some other important places but, to tell the truth, I do not know anything about Launderette club and that area.
I hope you will have a good trip there and you will share your experience and some exclusive picture with us in this blog.

Vetter 33 is 11% alcohol, its OG is 33 Plato. Still packs quite a punch.

Try to be in Heidelberg when the Italians win a game, the whole place goes nuts, not sure why there are so many Italians there but they party loudly and late into the night.
