wins Fame Academy 2003
19-year-old
Alex Parks from Truro, Cornwall, beat off fellow students
Alistair Griffin and Carolynne Good to win Fame Academy tonight
(Saturday 4 October), live on 主播大秀 ONE.
A
total of 4.5 million votes were received in the final with 11.5
million votes received overall throughout the series.
This
year the Fame Academy Bursary has generated 拢1.7 million in
record sales and phone lines with 拢2.6 million being generated
over both series.
Afterwards
Alex said: "I
want to do well in the industry and try and keep to my own path.
"My
legs were like jelly after the first two songs and I just got it
back together to keep performing. I was so overwhelmed I was worried
my voice wouldn't come out.
"It
was amazing to win, I really didn't expect it. I always thought
Paris would win!
"I
know it will be really hard to keep grounded but I don't want to
change and hopefully it won't go to my head.
"Fame
scares me. It's completely new to me.
"Concentrating
on writing and singing is what I'm looking forward to now."
Patrick
Kielty and Cat Deeley introduced stunning performances from the
remaining three students in the final.
They
were joined by judges Richard Park, David and Carrie Grant, Robin
Gibb and special guest judge Jonathan Ross.
Fame
Academy fans John Thompson, Dawn French, Lenny Henry, Kirsty Gallagher,
Paul Ross, Johnny Vegas and Shane Ritchie were also on hand to lend
their support.
Carolynne
Good received the least number of public votes at the end of the
first of tonight's shows, leaving Alistair
Griffin and Alex Parks to go head to head in the second show.
Alistair
performed Bread's Everything I Own and Alex sang John Lennon's Imagine,
and each performed duets with Daniel Bedingfield.
Alistair
then sang the self-penned Bring It On with Alex performing her own
song Maybe That's What It Takes.
After
a final duet of The Beatles classic Let It Be, introduced by new
Fame Academy Bursary Trustee Sir Paul McCartney, Alex was declared
the winner, claiming the most number of public votes.
Jonathan
Ross said: "I've seen some of the biggest stars, some of the
most inspirational artists and Alex is up there. She's up there
with the best I've ever seen.
"She
is so impressive. When she performed it was a special moment. It
blew me away."
Richard
Park said: "I don't think British TV has ever seen a 19-year-old
perform live at that level. Alex is superb."
Daniel
Bedingfield said: "Alex has something unique and special. British
music needs her."
Alex
claims the ultimate prize of a year's contract with Polydor and
a showbiz lifestyle for a year.
This
includes a luxury flat in Notting Hill, a recording session at Abbey
Road Studios, a guitar, a luxury holiday, a stylist plus wardrobe
for a year, a promo tour, membership of an exclusive private members
club and health club, a BMW 3 series coupe and a year's supply of
champagne.
A strong
favourite from the start, Alex has kept her cool and set standards
during her nine-week stay in the Academy despite the pressures of
life in front of the cameras.
One
of her greatest achievements has been to avoid the bottom three
each week - a massive vote of confidence from the general public.
She
has consistently managed to give fantastic performances, with the
teachers rarely having a bad word to say about her talent and approach.
"I
think Alex is a unique artist. She's not just excellent, but she's
also different," Carrie said of her.
And
David agreed: "I don't think she has any idea of the potential
she has."
A particular
highlight for Alex was her chance to fulfil every aspiring artist's
dream and perform live on 主播大秀 ONE's Top Of The Pops.
After
a close run battle on Radio 1, Alex edged out Alistair to go on
to sing Coldplay's Yellow.
"It's
amazing. I was going to sleep last night and still couldn't believe
it," she said at the time.

live show on 主播大秀 ONE performed exceptionally among 16-34's achieving
31% share, 6 share points more than usual for its slot. It has also
demonstrated its broad appeal by attracting decent 29% share among
35-54 year olds.
In
terms of performance among the 16-34 year old age group, Fame Academy
ranks third out of 主播大秀 ONE entertainment series and eighth out of
entertainment series on all channels this year.
Fame
Academy has performed particularly strongly amongst audiences in
the North of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

THREE coverage immediately after the result on 主播大秀 ONE last Saturday
was watched by an average of 562,000. That makes it the fourth highest
watched originated programme on 主播大秀 THREE this year.
The
Fame Academy interactive application has attracted 1.4 million users
to date, with average time spent on the Live Stream one hour 40
minutes a day.
The
主播大秀 Fame Academy website has been attracting between 2.5 and three
million page impressions a week. Fame Academy is regularly the most
searched for term on 主播大秀i and the message board is also the busiest
ever hosted by 主播大秀i, after Football.
C主播大秀
at the Fame Academy on 主播大秀 ONE has attracted on average 2.1 million
viewers at 5.30pm, of which 0.5 million were children. Generally
28% of all children watching television at the time were watching
C主播大秀 at the Fame Academy.
Mornings
on 主播大秀 TWO at the Fame Academy were attracting around 0.4 million
children, representing 25% share of all children viewing.
On
the C主播大秀 Channel, C主播大秀 at the Fame Academy has taken around 2.2%
share of children's viewing.
