Ö÷²¥´óÐã Arts, Music and Culture 2009 – partnerships and initiatives

The Ö÷²¥´óÐã is committed to expanding the range and impact of its partnerships with the arts sector and with specific institutions. Many partnerships are already in place, including collaborations with the Arts Council Of England, the UK Public Library Sector, the British Museum, the National Theatre, the Scottish Arts Council and the Royal Opera House and these point the way to more extensive collaborations in the future.

The Ö÷²¥´óÐã's commitment to releasing high quality arts programming from the last 70 years continues with collections celebrating Music From The Mersey and looking at the role of selected artists and writers in British culture.

Arts on Ö÷²¥´óÐã Online

Online support for Ö÷²¥´óÐã Arts programming ranges from websites accompanying returning series, such as Imagine and The Culture Show, to the online enhancement of major cultural events, from the Ö÷²¥´óÐã Proms to Glastonbury. Ö÷²¥´óÐã Drama Writers Academy

The Ö÷²¥´óÐã Drama Writers Academy is a unique course that equips writers with the skills to work on Ö÷²¥´óÐã flagship continuing drama programmes. It is the only course in the world that guarantees writers the opportunity to work on prime time television, aiming to create a pool of writing talent for shows such as EastEnders, Casualty, Holby City and Doctors. Students also have access to masterclasses from the best in the business and are given direct writing experience on continuing dramas, with the aim of broadcasting their finished scripts on Ö÷²¥´óÐã One.

Across Ö÷²¥´óÐã Television, Radio and Online, Ö÷²¥´óÐã Introducing brings together the best unsigned, undiscovered and under-the-radar music, artists and DJs. From broadcasts across the Ö÷²¥´óÐã's radio, television and online outlets to live slots at major festivals, it gives new artists the chance to be seen, heard and championed.

Ö÷²¥´óÐã Radio 3 New Generation Artists

Radio 3's continuing New Generation Artists scheme nurtures some of the major performing talent emerging on the national and international music scene. It offers young artists unique opportunities to develop their considerable talents across the Ö÷²¥´óÐã.

The Ö÷²¥´óÐã Performing Arts Fund

The Ö÷²¥´óÐã Performing Arts Fund is a registered charity that helps aspiring music-makers and performers looking for a way to get ahead. Its range of mentoring and bursary schemes are funded by voting lines on Ö÷²¥´óÐã programmes that seek out new performing talent. bbc.co.uk/performingartsfund

Ö÷²¥´óÐã Radio 3 commissioning of new music

With at least 30 major new classical works commissioned and broadcast each year, Radio 3 is one of the world's most important commissioners of new music.

Community work by the Ö÷²¥´óÐã's orchestras

Each of the Ö÷²¥´óÐã's performing groups is involved with extensive community and outreach work. Together, the orchestras come face-to-face with around 1m licence fee payers each year. In addition, in 2007/08 they reached more than 90,000 people through 93 different projects, including the creation of two new community orchestra groups in Scotland, more than 20 new primary school choirs across London and numerous family and schools concerts, introducing children and parents to live orchestral music.

Made In England – Ö÷²¥´óÐã English Regions

A partnership between Ö÷²¥´óÐã English Regions and Arts Council England, Made In England explores how the country, the place and people are represented through creative and artistic forms.

New Writers – Radio 4

For broadcast in various slots throughout 2009, Radio 4 will commission and broadcast at least 40 plays by first or second-time writers.

Young Talent

Radio 2 supports new musical talent through a range of initiatives, including the Young Folk Award, the Young Brass Soloist competition and Young Choristers Of The Year. Each event gives youthful performers in the UK a platform to showcase their skills and the opportunity to work with experts in their field.
