Easter - egg... bunny... chocolate... cake... hot cross buns...

what a clever hen!

just look what I found in my kitchen - isn't she clever. and no mess either.

My friend and I went to Chris Hodges emporium recently, the sole purpose of our trip was to buy a vileda mop, a draining rack and a floorbrush for my hoose. We were being very strict with ourselves and were not going to get sidetracked.
We came out with a sideboard (each).

My sideboard is standing in my sitting room, its a real heavy bit o furniture, and its just the perfect size and colour. I'm not mentioning price - even tho it was half price.

My friend's bit of furniture causes some hilarity, as
a) she has no house yet, and
b) one small child said it looked like a hen house, and another thought rabbit hutch.
And so a hen appeared, then an egg, then chickens...

happy easter everyone, don't over do the chocolate!

and her sideboard was half the price of mine! A bargain indeed.

raffle prize

more good news - my (best) friend won this in a raffle: a fish kettle and champagne...

2 rainy days in Unst...

Brilliant - 2 days in Unst! the recipe is as follows:

7 children -
4 of these children's names begins with 'J' so no one can remember anyone's name
2 children are older and responsible so we can relax while 5 children fight.
1 child enjoys making meals and cakes - even better! more relaxin!
The leisure centre is open for swimming and trampolining.
it is raining but no one cares

We always go to every shop in Unst and buy loads of terrific bargains. I bought gardening tools that I really do need, some hand towels in a colour not available in Mackay's shop in Lerwick, a mini ladle, ramekin dishes that I really do not need, sundae glasses in case I want an icecream sundae on Sunday, and a teapot Ruthodanort insisted on trying out before I paid for it. (It worked beautifully, and I was very grateful to her for being confident and assertive on my behalf)

We visited the chocolate factory too and bought some fab choccies - but I left them in Ruthodanort's car! what a great place to visit, we all loved it. There was an unfortunate mix up with my question about chocolate shapes (an innocent question) and what can be produced - however we established they can do commissions. (I was thinking children's parties, they were thinking hen and stag nights) still, interesting...

We emptied their shop of chocolate mice...

We visited the Final Checkout - the most northerely shop and cafe in Britain (not the world as I claimed) and got the most amazing smoked fish soup made on the premises - must be tasted to be believed - delicious. We got ours free cos we are nice people...

We also auditioned for a film being filmed in Unst and in Yell, so we may be famous one day. We'll come back and sign autographs anytime...

The Blackening - a film we may get to **star** in

'Your dad must be a proud man...'

This is the line all (female) shetlanders are muttering at the moment. Why? its the line that any of us lucky local women might - just might - get to utter on the film they're auditioning for at the moment. Many of us have had shots of saying it in different accents, dialects and with emphiasis on different words. Did I mention that someone we all know was phoned up and asked to come in to rehearse and act the line? sorry Ruthodanort did not mean for that to come out. It just slipped out. Did I mention I did not get asked to come back to have a shot? no? well there you go.(weep) some of us are destined for stardom.(I'm not jealous) some of us are only destined to make the tea. (howl) But will she remember her humble origins?

There is a picture of Lerwick street (allegedly) in the Shetland Times. (Lerwick Trevor could make a blockbuster film too.)

Its all very exciting - a film, on our doorstep, using local folk - almost like Local Hero - until you read the article in the Shetland Times which says it is a dark and violent piece, with pagan elements. However the casting director says this isn't true - the reporter got it wrong - so you can't believe everything you read!

this is a very important day - Monday - I can't say why, I'll just have to leave a code to be cracked by the most intelligent of us:

HBTY, HBTY,HBDR, HBTY

no prize for guessing who and what?

dreaming about voting

I had a dreadful dream last night. I dreamed (dreamt?) about the new voting system. How sad is that - of all the things I could worry about or could dream about my brain chooses that . in my dream no one - NO ONE - voted any candidate number 1. We all - the entire voting constituency - only placed candidates 2 -3 - 4 - 5 - etc. this made counting the vote very difficult.

Is anyone else able to understand the voting system - ie in real life not in my dream? How do they make sense of it? if we all vote avoiding placing anyone first would it make any difference? how would the vote transfer work then?

can anyone interpret my dream? what would Freud say? how would he link that to the usual things he associated things with (I'm aware this is before the 9pm watershed)?

who to vote for?

the kitchen table is groaning with glossy brochures about wonderful people. And the promises they make!

who am I to vote for? we've been through all the candidates several times (the brochures I mean) and eliminated everyone each time. My friend suggests voting tory. (is this what the world has come to?) (mind you will it make any difference)(I have never voted tory yet)(and don't intend to)

I need to ask each local candidate what they think of the massive proposed windfarm. It means that a huge unspoiled wild area of Shetland will be covered in windmills. It (may) mean double width tarmac roads over our hills. and pylons?

Pain in the neck...can anyone help?

Evening - Shetland in April

Time for a good moan. beautiful weather - better than any summer we've had in years, and no fog yet! I'm trying to do a little gardening every day so's not to hurt back and neck, and tryin to go for walks to get fit.

BUT I have had a very sore neck and have had a thumping headache for the last 3 days. It could be: a form of hayfever (eyes are a bit blurry) - I've taken piriton but that only makes me dozy and not care about anything includin sore head. I've taken ibuprofen which makes no difference to head, its still sore. I've rubbed on ibuprofen gel and that only dulls the pain. I put heat on it - that helps a bit.

Does anyone have any good ideas for relieving a sore neck - I suspect a disc or muscle is at the root of the pain. And I've just returned the Treat Your Own Neck book to the hospital after mislaying it for about a year. Appointment made with chiro/osteo man for next week - all suggestions will be (gratefully) considered... off to enjoy sunshine as much as is possible in the circumstances...moan .. moan...
