Rocky Doodle Do

Today the sun shone and the Rooster strutted his stuff on the newly mown lawn. His feathers were so colourful that it inspired me to take my life in my hands and try to capture it on the camera.
You see Rocky the Rooster has had a few run ins with me and most of the time I run and hide . His talons inflict great pain when he flies at you whilst your back is turned. I have shut myself in the wood shed frightened to open the door incase he is out there. Even the Hooch has felt his wrath and unless Hooch is feeling very brave he will skirt round the edge of the garden to avoid coming face to face with him.
Rocky was raised from an egg in an incubator and I am sure that he is as mad as hell that he missed out on the mother fatherly love that we all need. He belonged to the doctor on Shapinsay who was also so wary of the said Rooster that se wanted him banished from her hen house. It took Mr B a battle and a half to get him into the box to bring him home.
If I had my way the Rooster would be in the pot, but hes such a handsome beast and Mr B's quite indignant that he is here to stay that I guess that the Rooster is here to stay.

Maybe you could ask FC to come and have a look at Rocky, and although I can't condone cock fighting, I would buy a ringside seat for that.

We have 7 cockerels at the moment! One we had was just like Rocky and when my back was turned in the byre, he launched himself at me legs..I still have the hole in the back of me knee from his spur. So I chased him round the byre and he has never done it since. Gotta show them who is boss. ;-)

Very plump, and doubtless equally tasty. You could eat him and keep the feathers (glue the feathers to a cardboard and offer it to him, together with roast rooster and tatties for his birthday?! And you could even give him a printout photo as well).

Righto, Hermit. Do you have a picture of yourself chasing the rooster, morningstar in hand? Let's have it. I remember the story of grandpa in his rocking chair, with the rooster chasing the hens, round and round the cabin, and him shooting at the rooster every time he Derbied across the front yard. I can't remember whether we had chicken that evening.... Sure would have been a meal fit for a Queen, eh?

I have tried chasing him with a big stick until both he and I are breathless but the next time I go out he is waiting. He seems to be attracted by the red feed shovel I have and that makes me think that he sees himself as a charging Bull.

By the way, what breed is the rooster? Has the same general body structure as a Rhode Island Red or a New Hampshire, but with rather more flamboyant markings.

Carol - he gave us ALL a fairly graphic description of his physique recently in a blog, a TOPLESS one no less. Much as I would like to, I STILL have no admissible evidence about the cuteness of TWS's butt.

There is a new rooster crowing and strutting his stuff in France, so I understand. Passport renewed, visas up to date, and on stand-by for NZ, Carol? Seriously, Sarkozy may not be bad for France (though I don't particularly care for his stance on Turkey, but that's not an urgent matter).

The goodies are for daughter at uni. down south, Barebraes. Following Odinstone's advice, I also sent daughter a nice "care" package from Judith Glue. A taste of Orkney, long distance, I guess.
