A Mile Stone

Parents are wonderful people they bring us up and install a lot of good values in us. No one knows how difficult being a parent is or the right way or the wrong way to bring up children.

My parents recently celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary. Yes 50 Years of marriage, that in itself is a great acheivement and one that I think should be recognised.

They celebrated the day together in a very posh hotel in Central London and also saw a West End Show , The Lion KIng.

I would just like to say Thank you to my Mum and Dad for giving me and my sister a great childhood and a lot of happy memories along the way.

Happy Anniversaree to barebraes' parental units! (NB: must wear specs to avoid confusing 'Milestone' and 'Millstone') They look awfully nice, and we would quite like to borrow them...

Flying Cat from an admiring glance and a furry hug

May I join you, Barebraes, in congratulating your parents?

mjc from NM,USA

I'll sing them a song shall I? That's a yes then. " She wears his ring" No I won't do that one. " Old flames can't hold a candle to youse, and old flames can't light up the night like youse do, flickering embers of love, I've seen one or two, but old flames can't hold a candle to yooouuussse" Happy Anniversary to Barebraes parents from The All Singing All Dancing ( well not so much of the dancing) Tws. I Think??

Tws from The Music Room

The old part in the song, was in no way a reflection on how I saw your parents. It is the words of the song, erm, Flannel and Hoister I think were the duo that had a hit with it.

EARPLUGS!!!!!!!

A nice good way to celebrate a golden anniversary. Quiet, intimate, and deservedly posher (I am guessing) than their first date!!!

Thanks for all your good wishes to Mum and Dad as for the serenade that itself was an honour and a far preferable song than the first choice tws, never heard of flannel and hoister tho , are they a local band ?

I think it may have been Foster and Allen, it just came out wrong.

Tws from Unconfusing

They might have had an extremely posh first date. I think the parental units here are having dificulty remembering theirs...maybe it was in a pub...that would explain it.

Flying Cat from Mem'ries, of the way we used to be...

First date I had with my wife was over a 1'6 (one shilling 6 pence) egg and chips at the Durham U. students' union cafeteria. The last of the big spenders, I was. After we dated a while, we moved on to the fish and chips place. 2 shillings, and later - after inflation hit -2'6. No extra charge for the salt and vinegar. Those were the days.

Not flannel and hoister, Barebraes. Flannel and Holster, aka Ivy League Banditos, famous for the song with Bonnie Raitt "The thing [pronounced "thang"] called love" ... Personally, I like Raitt's "Hear me Lord" better. I am glad your parents don't have to sing "Do I ever cross your mind?" [Raitt and Ray Charles version]

As far as I know my mums first impression of my dad was something along the lines of "Whose that lad in that horrid green shirt" and they say that love is blind. Tws are you sure it wasnt flannagan and allan or Brown and Poulsons :)

Barebraes from Shapinsay

I'm falling behind on IB just now,so have just read your blog-belated congrats to your parents and hope they have many more happy years togetherxx

carol from the usual place

Am I sure Barebraes? I'm not sure of anything these days. I used to drink in an Irish pub, in Manchester, and they had one of those juke boxes mostly filled with Irish music, and the " Old flames can't hold a candle to You" came on quite a lot. After 8 or 9 pints of the black stuff, it sounded great, so I'm not sure if it was them, it's just a name I remember from those hazy crazy daze...
