After falling backwards into the sea and dropping my new camera into the frothy waves, I now have a replacement camera, only more so. I'm still on automatic and am finding I need more and more equipment as my hobby and interest in photography grows. A tripod may be a good idea and perhaps reading the instruction book wouldn't go amiss. Mmmmmm

Ooooh, you are so clever, Squidgy, lovely photos and beautifully presented. Colours: it's one thing to admire the colours in the sunset, but quite another to have them on your living room walls 24 hours a day! And BTW the science you mention is called Ikeaology or even MFIology.

Oh Carol, why are you crying my love?? I am going to spend all weekend wondering if you are upset, or if you have cold, or if TWS has made you laugh so much with his songs? Jill from EK, you are so very right. I have wimped out and my lounge is now Delphinium Blue with white walls, and the ology needed on Coll, is homebaseology, argosology, or throw the whole bl**dy thing in the binology!! (excuse my rude language, but who on earth writes these instructions) my bookcase has somehow become a rowing boat. Pass another screw will-ya!

Lovely photos Squidgy, and I especially like the tile effect montage. Your comment about Seal Morning struck a chord - I got totally involved in it, it's superbly written and portrays a Highland way of life very passionately. And then....the notes at the end!!! I nearly wept. Strange, isn't it? Why should it matter so much? To any bloggers who haven't read it.....highly recommended! It has been republished in recent years and is widely available. Thanks for a great blog, anyway, Squidgy!

Squidgy, it's getting harder and harder to find the appropriate words for your photoblog, it's both wonderful and addictive. I sit for minutes and minutes (of course the conventions of literature dictate "--hours and hours" but that would not be quite true) staring at your "moving" pictures: moving in more ways than one. Remember the old adage "When all else fails read the instructions". Said instructions these days seem to be machine-translated from bad Mandarin into nothing resembling the language of the Immoral Bard, Winnie the Pooh and your good self. Let it be.... You may also be thankful that, in automatic mode, you don't have to go through the same rigmarole as my old Mum, who, when she wanted to take a photo had first to check through her long-distance glasses, then change to near-view to read the exposure meter, adjust exposure, then change back to ldg to check that the subject was still there, if the sun came out/disappeared during all this she had to start over again. In spite of the odds she was quite prolific and rather good. You would have enjoyed meeting her.

A tripod would be a very very good investment Squidy; a friend said it was the biggest aid to (almost) all-weather photography in our windy climate she could think of. What a brilliant and multi-talented otter you are!

Well now, since my last posting the bookcase has been erected quite successfully with just the one hiccup. Was this rather large hiccup down to Moi?? Well, a member of the male species informs me it is. Let me enlighten you. The Bottom drawer inset is missing. I counted all the pieces and it is definitely missing and not in the flat pack. However, I have been reliably informed by the MS (Male Species) over the phone, and not in person, that I have put the bookcase together wrong, or lost the piece. In no uncertain terms the MS was told where to go and where I would be sticking the drill at some later date. The bookcase is now fully erected with the exception of the drawer which is not my fault and was not packed in the box. There, I have got that off my chest. Men !!!

Stromness Dragon, I agree with you, why should it matter so much. The ending is still with me now. The book is available on Ebay. My copy is an old paperback. I first learned about it through reading Gavin Maxwell, who mentioned it Seal Morning in one of his books.
