Post categories:

Paul McClean | 12:56 UK time, Friday, 23 April 2010

Axis Of, photgraphed by Chris Flack at punksatonyphil.comYet another new act that has moonwalked onto our radar in the past twelve months and managed to cause quite a fuss in a very short space of time - .

From the North coast and related (both literally and musically) to , the noisy three piece will launch their new single with an ambitious gig in Belfast on May 5th.

Niall from the band takes time out of preparation for said gig to chat to Rigsy, if Rigsy can actually convince him he's not an imposter...

Favourite Album Artwork

Post categories:

ATL | 16:34 UK time, Monday, 19 April 2010

Record Store DayFollowing on Saturday past, ATL has been reminiscing about the days when people actually walked into shops and picked up something physical to build a record/CD collection, rather than trawling download sites to fill the hard drive on their laptop. But let's not get into a debate about how people buy their music as that could well end in tears. Instead we're celebrating album artwork - CD and record covers that are so pretty they actually add to the experience of enjoying the music within. Think of albums like Primal Scream's Screamadelica (so good it recently turned up on a stamp), Nirvana's Nevermind or Blur's Parklife - just three albums with artwork now described as iconic.

So today we'd like to know about your favourite album artwork. Share via , , email or text (81771 once we get on air at 8pm)! Here's team ATL's picks...

Chattering Classes #12 - The Jane Bradfords

Post categories:

ATL | 15:09 UK time, Wednesday, 14 April 2010

The Jane Bradfords are one of the most discussed Northern Irish acts of the last few years, off the back of some memorable live turns and an eponymous debut album which wasn't afraid to be a little bit different. The band, which is essentially local DJ and man about town Deci Gallen and his friends, is in the process of making a return.

But before a gig at the Speakeasy in Belfast next week, there's the small matter of speaking to our Rigsy on MSN, about sunshine and beer...

2:00pm Rigsy says: deci gallen of the band the jane bradfords how are you

2:01pm Deci says: I'm good. what's this about?

Glasgowbury Headliners!

Post categories: ,Ìý

Rigsy | 14:44 UK time, Monday, 12 April 2010

It's just occurred to us that, with the line ups for and being announced recently, it may look like we've forgotten all about our very own , taking place in Draperstown this July.

As if! We're just waiting, like everyone else, for some news on the line up for what is set to be their biggest event to date. In the meantime though, a little speculation.

Tonight's suggestiON-AIR then, is even more straight forward than usual. We'd like to know which Northern Irish band you would like to see headling Glasgowbury 2010. Let us know via , , email or (once we're on air text - 81771)

Here's a few bands definitely in the running (please note ATL has no idea at this point, this is all pure speculation. And yes, I know we've left out Lafaro and ASIWYFA. THERE'S JUST TOO MANY BANDS!

Idlewild Q & A

Post categories:

Rigsy | 15:41 UK time, Friday, 9 April 2010

Sometimes these vaugely silly Q&A's work really well, the odd time they make for pretty grim reading. On this occasion, wee freckly Roddy Womble, from the most scandalously underrated Scottish band of all time (that'll be )... well, he doesn't seem up for this much, does he? Maybe he'd just woke up. Anyway,Ìýif his band were'nt all types of awesome we'd probably declare him to be a grumpy wee blighter...

*

Hello there Roddy, this is ATL. How the Dickens are you right now at this very second?
I am fine thank you.

Why the heck should we give a stuff about your gig at the Stiff Kitten in Belfast then ;) ?
I'm not asking you to. Don't come if you don't want to. If you do decide though, a full venue is always better than an empty one. So that's worth bearing in mind.

Chattering Classes #11 - De-twist

Post categories:

Rigsy | 14:36 UK time, Wednesday, 7 April 2010

detwist.jpg, or 'Paul' to those who know him that little bit better, is one of a collective of DJs and producers in Northern Ireland doing something a little bit different. Like his fellow residents at monthly club night , De-Twist is all about the bass. He's also about pushing boundaries and making electronic music that rebels against predictable minimal techno or lazy house, by just being that little bit more... interesting.

Ahead of what will no doubt be another rib-shattering, sweaty, sell-out at Ecker this Friday, the man himself was subjected to an MSN chat with our Rigsy...

Favourite Dance Anthems!

Post categories:

ATL | 15:57 UK time, Monday, 5 April 2010

Easter Monday has now firmly established itself as Northern Ireland's official day of rave as, for whatever reason, the country's club promoters seem to pull out all the stops to put on mammoth bills on this night of the year. DJ Yoda, Eric Prydz, Steve Angello, Dubfire, Alex Metric and Sven Vath (amongst many others) are all set to wreck various venues across the province this evening, so get involved!

So today we're talking rave anthems, or at least electronic tracks guaranteed to get you to the dancefloor. The ATL team picks follow, but feel free to argue, discuss, agree and most importantly, suggest your own entry for the tune guaranteed to get you moving like a buffoon.
