Oxegen 2011 - Arctic Monkeys

Post categories: ,Ìý,Ìý

ATL | 15:50 UK time, Sunday, 10 July 2011

Main Stage, Saturday, 9.40pm

Describe in a Tweet: I bet they look good on the main stage.

What happened: The Arctic Monkeys certainly aren't a band renowned for their hilarious stage banter or their mind melting showmanship and why need they be? They have a back catalogue that speaks confidently for itself. Various tracks are peppered throughout the hour long set compromising all four albums.

It's really positive to see the crowd react extremely positively to the Monkeys' new album. It would have been extremely difficult for any fans who were sitting on the fence when it comes to the previous two albums to not get wrapped up in the sheer ferocity of the new material.

The Monkeys revamp some of their earlier material to suit their growing maturity. Mardy Bum is stripped back from its usual indie nuances and delivered with a soft delicate croon. They are continually evolving, albeit slowly and methodically and are very cleverly moulding themselves into a band for the long run.

Crazy In Love: The new album sounds absolutely ferocious live.

Why Don't You Love Me: The worst kept secret at this year's festival came to fruition when Miles Kane joined the Steel City foursome on stage for final song 505.

Oxegen rating: 8/10
