The first song choice on Monday will be interesting!

I'll be out of luck on Monday - if I can't get through on the phone, I can't type or text fast enough!!! Takes me about half an hour to send one message - the daughter despairs of me. Tuesdays' theme looks interesting - will have to get me thinkin' 'ead on for that one.

Tuesday pauses: I agree with Captain R that this is going to be a challenge, perhaps something we've not been too used to on GIO of late. I've trawled my collection tonight to make up a list. Here it is:

'The road to home' - Amy Macdonald (at least there is a 30 second gap before her abbreviated rendition of 'Caledonia' on my iTunes download...)

'The End' - The Beatles, which, on their Abbey Road album, had a 20 second delay before they unfortunately played out forever with 'Her Majesty'

I also seem to recall 'Where do you go to my lovely' - Peter Sarstedt, as having a bit that caught the DJ out, but having listened to it again, it's no longer there. Shows what tricks your memory can play!

Other than that, I have found this to be a rather difficult challenge. I hope others have better luck than me!

#38 Honestly Norrie...I wouldn't bother - saw him a couple of years ago at SECC, was really looking forward to it...thought, well, he's getting on a bit but his voice was never his strong point anyway - big mistake - one of the worst concerts I have ever been to. Couldn't make out what we were listening to half the time...a waste of (fairly hefty) ticket price. Some things are better left alone.

However...did I hear correctly somewhere that Simple Minds are playing Edinburgh Castle next July? - saw them in 1984 and have a feeling that they may still be worth seeing.

Norrie: I'm glad if you managed to see Bob even once when he sounded good - the gig I was at must have been one of the most disappointing evenings out I have ever had. The car broke down when we set off from Edinburgh, had to get a courtesy car from the garage, get through the traffic when we got to Glasgow...reached the venue and thought at least the support band was still on because we didn't recognise what we heard, got inside and realised it was Bob on stage. We were sitting there thinking "what on earth is he singing?" then were amazed when we realised it was "All Along The Watchtower"!!! I heard the Barrowlands was good too...wish I'd gone to that instead.

Dannielle - no I've not heard it - don't really know much about The Eels, except that one song. Must have a look at youtube.

#50 Rich, funnily enough I was at a Christmas party night last night...Love Shack was played and I noticed that pause. That's a great song - love the B-52s.

Oh and the other day I was really surprised to hear you hadnt heard of Richard Hawley ( a fine singer songwriter from Sheffield). There are obviously gaps in your radio listening habits. Who do you tune into on a daily basis?

Norrie: Nice suggestion. You knew Mr. 'M' would/could make an appearance. He (and The Smiths) may not be 'the most played', but I think he could win the 'most applicable' award.

Quite right about last week themes, DC. Far too broad 鈥� bit like having 鈥淩ock songs鈥� or 鈥淪ongs with Love in the Title鈥�. Mind you, they can be too narrow. Like the Human League night. The team realized too late that there were only four songs worth playing and had to use most of the show as a catch up night.
Pause theme is a good challenge. I suspect a lot of our regular google bloggers will be noticeable by their absence this week.

I am a bit of a creature of habit Adam, I do rely on my much more knowledgeable gig pal from my Uni days to point me in the direction of new music. catch the radio when I can, work gets in the way often. I can be quite stuck in my ways. So that may tell you why I like this blog...and the lists which annnoy some people but for folk like me its just opening doors to new sounds.

RJ - I had thought of Grace Jones but she clashes with another gig. Living My Life is one of my favourite albums - can you tell me has she done anything worthwile after that? I have got a great anthology set as weel The Island Yeras.

Do the pauses in Elvis songs count....

Suspicious Minds fades out and then fades back in again.

There is a big pause, maybe he is trying to get back his breath, during American Trilogy.

Norrie, there's one of the issues, is a fade out, and fade back in, the same as a pause? I am struggling on this one and I know that tomorrow night I will be going 'of course, I remember that now'. Could be very annoying.

Is there not also a sigh and a pause at the start of Jeff Buckley's version of "Hallelujah"?
