Glen, I saw your mention of The Rolling Stones for Tuesday and was immediately reminded of the late great Ian Stewart, the original member of that group, who played piano and organ on many of their hits.

I recall as a youngster, the local rumour that a famous band had stayed overnight in Cellardyke (actually next door to where I was brought up and now less than fifty yards from where I am as I type...).

We all thought that it was none other than the Beatles, a new group on the block, and the only 'popstars' who had been heard of in the East Neuk. Little did we know that 'Stu' had founded the greatest band of all time, OK, Pink Floyd might just give them a run for their mega-money.....

Stu's auntie, 'Mrs Wilson', stayed a couple of doors away and made ham and eggs for the Stones that morning. OK, Ian Stewart was born in Pittenweem and is actually what we refer to as a 'Tornerse'. Nevertheless, he was, and I suppose still is, one of my all-time heroes

In july 77 I was a 15 year old boy scout holidaying at the international scout and guides camp in Kandersteg switzerland. I don't know who's idea it was to send hormonal 15 year old guys from the west of Scotland in amongst teenage girls from all over Europe, but anyway, to our delight we discovered that the local hostelry Simplon Suzie's would serve beer if you were over 14. In the corner was a jukebox and on that jukebox was a song that was played over and over again. We just new it as the sexy song because of the female moaning over the intro. Six months later it was a Uk no.1. It was cheesy to the extreme but it'll always remind me of being legally served my first bottle of beer high up in the alps... and the blonde belgian penpal I acquired along the way.

Not everybody likes Roxette, of course, but compared to many many other acts in their 'euro niche' they have had a degree of longevity and produced a body of tracks that have real credibility. Not only that, but they are a brilliant live act and have received numerous awards for their output. I caught them live in Belgium once and I have to say I was really surprised at how good they were - amazing band, brilliant set, and lots of really good songs. Trust me - they will be cool again!

I dont know who blogged the refernce but glas I now know what a Fender Rhodes is and amazingly then I was watching an outstanding clip with Tift Merrit playing her song Good Hearted Man solo on one. Brilliant.

Roy Bittan is on an incredible amount of lps from artists as diverese as Springsteen, Stevie Nicks, Bowie etc etc. From his work I would like to nominate the following track:
