In May, 1996, one of my pals phoned up and said;

"We're all going to the Barrowland on Wednesday to see Whigfield, you commin?"

Our lot have fairly eclectic taste, so, somewhat surprised, I found myself agreeing to go.

It wasn't until I turned up in the pub beforehand that I realised that he'd transmitted the name incorrectly: we were about to witness the first performance in Scotland of Leftfield.

What a night that was! The band came on stage - one of them walk up to a keyboard and press a bass note. The note comes along the floor and goes through you. Never experienced anything like it. The Ballroom had complaints about the noise from 5 streets away.

Of course, it could have been the booze, but I don't think so.

Radio friendly, moving, melodic and, with the hope of peace, written for those involved in soldiering. Beautiful, your producer will know how to take off the first couple of minutes, which repeat before the choir come in.Karl Jenkins used to be the keyboard player in Soft Machine in another life.

Samuel Barber - Agnus Dei -String Quartet in B minor Op 11: David Hill (not of Slade fame) and the Winchester Cathedral Choir. (EMI 50999 2 28275 2 4 )

Everyone knows Barber's 'Adagio for Strings' - this is the Choral version which, if anything, is even more beautiful and immensely more powerful.You'll be blown away.

This form of censorship smacks of laziness. And more besides that is even more disturbing.

Henri I was not trying to do a direct comparison with Paolo / Josh or indeed anyone. I think this theme is a great opportunity to point people in the direction of things you think are better. And similarly point out new artists which you think might appeal to listeners.
