Did anyone catch this radio 2 programme about Sandy Denny last week? Someone just told me it had been on, but there's only 3 hours left to listen again

Yes it was great Gaie. I did not know much about get but loved the Mark Olson song Sandy Denny so listened in.

My request is even more predictable, but it does have some personal meaning. The first song I "danced" to with my husband. Neither of us could/can dance but it didn't matter. All my Christmases came at once that school disco night many moons ago.

Norrie, I know His Royal Roxyness, John, could answer this better than me but I`ll try.
I know the song from the early 80`s when I think it was on the Jealous Guy single or EP. Its definitely on Heart Still Beating which is a live album released in 90 (I think) but contains recordings from shows in Paris in the early 80s. Its a great album and has Song For Europe on it which RJ and I often request for appropriate themes.

4 track ep from memory......RJ will be along to confirm!

ps have my tickets for the Glasgow show in January so looking forward to that!

The 鈥淟ike A Hurricane鈥� exchange and other posts on this threed made me think of this as a possible theme:

X Marks The Spot 鈥� Hidden treasures.

Those songs that are tucked away on EPs, B sides, live albums and movie soundtracks and rarely played. Or artists who are considered one hit wonders but who have another gem or two not usually heard.

During this alphabet there has been a recurring groundswell for a show of denied requests - for artists not normally played on GIO: a PMF show.

It's not without precedent: there have been shows that have been minority exclusive: for new requesters, for classical music and so on.

Anecdotal evidence says these worked well. Being Thursday, this would give everyone the weekend to figure out what they'd like to hear. It would give the team the weekend to consider the early suggestions.

After about a year of regularly listening and blogging and thinking about this - this is is my point: I don't think our denied requests are denied because they don't want to play them - I think they are denied because they are not familiar with them - and - it's too risky.

I was struck by this when Vic was presenting: the show had a different 'feel' and some music was played that I don't think Bryan would have rushed at but a double check at the playlists didn't reveal anything revolutionary.

This means the presenters are picking within a comfort zone and it's hard to blame them: on space night someone requested 'The Intergalactic Laxative' by Donovan, which Vic hadn't heard of (but is an amusing ditty in keeping with the theme but somewhat risque).Had Vic played it, he might have got into hot water and if I understand it correctly, post Ross/Brand, gettng into hot water isn't a good idea at the Beeb.

So, the cautious reluctance is understandable - but is it also reasonable and fair to those who are giving up their time to inter act and participate in such success as the show enjoys to also be marginalised in some important ways.

If I'm remotely in the right ballpark, that some of this is lack of knowledge, should we expect a greater knowledge/research committment from the team?

If we put our requests for such a show in over the weekend they could be more thorughly checked before we get on air.Or does that happen already and our requests for the X list just don't get considered? It would be nice to know.

If they want to constantly improve a great show, it's unlikely to be achieved without some additional graft, if you can call music appreciation graft.

I think it's about time, once in a whole alphabet, that the minority that constitutes the regular bloggers got their wishes fulfilled.Once in an alphbet doesn't seem unreasonable even it it takes a temporary uplift in research.

But since that's not going to happen, I suggest:
