Sleigh ride...

Bryan Burnett | 19:47 UK time, Thursday, 23 December 2010

Santa's sleigh is behind our advent calendar window for Christmas Eve. The show is dedicated to everyone who will be on the move that night. Weather permitting, I imagine that loads of folk will be listening as they attempt to make it home for Christmas, so what are the songs that will speed them on their way? It could be driving anthems or maybe just some festive favourites. Get in touch and let me know. If you are planning to be on the move then let me know your plans and we'll give you a mention on the show...

I will no doubt be running back up the road to the supermarket for the forty-fifth time this week.

... and for those for whom travelling is not an option ...

'Christmas in Prison' - John Prine

Bruce Springsteen - Drive All Night

Mary Chapin Carpenter - Almost Ö÷²¥´óÐã

Play the latter as it's shorter and it's a great song to boot.

I wish all the GIO team a very merry Xmas, Bryan, Babs, Mandi, Richard.... and more than extend the same wishes to my fellow bloggers. Strange though it may seem you have all been a shining light in what has been a dark year at times. A few of you especially so...you know who you are!

    Cheers!!

Our bus driver Owen is on the road 48 weeks a year, 6 days a week, 5 of them 6.30am to 6.30pm. He gets a break in there somewhere during the day, but how many folk do that every day and still manage to raise others' spirits with their banter and joie de vivre? He's never grumpy (unless his team aren't doing well - no comment. We can forgive him that), has a wicked sense of humour and all his passengers consider him a friend. He even texted to let us know when the bus wasn't running during the adverse weather conditions so we could make alternative arrangements. Above and beyond the call of duty. A lovely human being.

Please could you play a song for him - he'll be doing the usual 6.30am to 6.30pm routine tomorrow with only a smattering of passengers on the last journey of the day as most of his passengers have got half days or holidays tomorrow. He's also newly married and would rather be home with his gorgeous wife Jayne.

Most of my extended family have made it home and am looking forward to the party on the 27th. One exception will be my youngest daughter who is having her first xmas away from home on the other side of the world in Oz. One of her close friends is goin out to join her and all going well will arrive on xmas day. So whilst we are all freezing our bits off over here, Marie Elise will be on a four hour round trip in the sunshine to pick up her pal from the airport. Soft top down, wind in her hair, shades on doin her

I'd like to wish all the bloggers (especially the ones who have become my friends) and the GIO team a very Merry Christmas. I hope that everyone who has travelling to do has a safe journey. Personally, if it snows today, I may be walking to my sister's for my Christmas lunch but then I'm thankful that I can do that.

I'm quite keen on The Coral at the moment, I like their harmonies...'Walking In The Winter' is good.

One of my favourite songs just now is 'Winter Rose' by The Bees. It has a lovely feel to it.

'Thanks For Christmas' - XTC...don't think I've heard this on GIO before.

'I Want To Come Ö÷²¥´óÐã For Christmas' - Marvin Gaye (hankies oot folks!)...poignant for those who are far away from loved ones.

Have a grrrrreat day tomorrow everyone.

I'd also like to wish a happy Xmas / Chanukah / Holiday to all the bloggers who make this wee online community such good fun. And of course all the best to Bryan, Babs, and the whole GIO team for the best programme on the tranny.

are you not supposed to be in the supermarche?

  • Comment number 19.

Well my brother is on his way from Nigeria, he has paid the exit tax (bribe), last heard he may make it to Glasgow for an overnight drive to the North. He may also spend Christmas in Schipol.

I spend the very little time that I do see him talking him out of working in Nigeria, Angola, Cambodia, Vietnam......amongst others. He ignores this advice.

Tom Russell - East Of Woodstock, West of Vietnam

and his likely final transport mode today/tomorrow

Bruce Springsteen - Drive All Night

    Beany.....travel safe!

    Cheers

    #16 no, I wouldn't say that!

Julie, agree about the the Coral.

Henri, hope your various mishaps are now sorted?

    Good Evening Blogotariat!

A very big thank you to my fellow bloggers for a year of cheery banter and - to echo Norrie, you have provided many light moments in another strange and awkward year.

Also to our GIO team: Bryan, Babs, Mandi, thank you for making the evenings lighter.

I hope you all have a very happy and joyful Xmas.

But,above all, I would like to extend an especially big thank you to the Scottish Gas Engineer who fixed my boiler this afternoon, averting disaster:

Can you play for this wonderful bloke(and this request is a great track and is long overdue on GIO).

Old White Lincoln - The Gaslight Anthem (Lincoln is a kind of car, Bry, not a dead President)

    If all else fails:

Long Train Runnin - The Doobies

Drive My car - the Beatles (from the Love Album)

You Drive Me Crazy - Shakin Stevens (unusual for me, but it's just so well produced)

Drive In Saturday - David Bowie

    MERRY XMAS!

    regrdez youse all

#18 just back and trying to get things ready for tomorrow. Unfortunately not time to hear the show so I think I'll just have alison again

Special Christmas wishes to the Get It On team. Thinking of songs to match themes have kept me going through many meetings at work over the past year. Lets hope for challenging themes for 2011.

And I would like to echo the posts above. Although I have not yet met any of the non East Neuk blogotariat (at least I don't think so!) I feel I have made many friends through this GiO. A very Merry Christmas to you all!

Now I'd better get back to work......
