Strong women...

Bryan Burnett | 19:55 UK time, Monday, 7 March 2011

On Tuesday night we will be celebrating 100 years of International Women's Day. Later in the night, , Mary Ann Kennedy presents a special edition of her show live from Studio One at Ö÷²¥´óÐã Scotland's headquarters at Pacific Quay in Glasgow. Senegalese superstar Baaba Maal talks about his work with Women of the World, the incredibly talented singer songwriter Karine Polwart performs live in studio and there's music from a fantastic all-female band, The Shee, who combine folk, Scots, Gaelic and bluegrass.

We'll also be marking International Women's Day with a show featuring inspirational and important women in music. There's also the opportunity to suggest song with a strong message. Dom, who worked up tonight's theme came up with a few xamples: "Wannabe by Spice Girls - It's easy to criticize however the spice girls have been credited as starting the girl power movement in the 1990's. I Will Survive - Gloria Gaynor - The classic post break up song. Other examples could be "On a Mission" by "Gabriella Cilmi", Respect by "Aretha Franklin", Gabriel "Dreams", Des'ree "You Gotta Be", Britney Spears "Stronger" and so on."
