When I saw Pink Martini last month, Thomas Lauderdale introduced their version as being arranged to be in-keeping with the plot of the film it comes from...Hitchcock's 'The Man Who Knew Too Much'. In the film, Doris Day sings it while in dire peril...as a way to locate her kidnapped son who is about to be killed! I've never seen the film so can't really visualise it but, Pink Martini's version is far from the Doris Day version with which we're familiar.

For something tense with a spooky, sinister-fairground feel, please play...

I wouldn't be concerned. It's live Radio, it must be hell trying to control all that info from diverse sources and make sence of it. Actually, I often think the team are to be congratulated for the show not turning into an uncordinated shambles of competeing media - especially as the show gets more popular, every show seems busy, much has to be responded to on the hoof.

Anyway, Alison just got your name wrong. but it's nothing in comparison to what the team get on here. Personally,I expect to get a hard time - like tonight - (if only it were true) but it doesn't matter, it's a privilege to be mentioned at all.

I thought Alison did well tonight, better than previous endeavours and she's learned something lost on Vic and other guest presenters - throwing the bloggers a bone here and there is bound to improve your approval ratings.

Deputising for Bryan seems to be Alison's gig now - the interior decorators haven't been back. Though the spark that exists between Bryan and Babs was missing.

Still, there's nothing else like it - cheer up - I've never considered you grumpy! (relatively speaking, of course).

Just heard Jimmy Saville has passed away

Here he is on the (With The Beatles at No. 14).

He is credited with inventing the disco. I used to listen to him on Radio Luxembourg. In latter years he could be seen often at his place in Glencoe. He was an individualist who gave generously of his time for others. He'll be missed.

his individuality was his strength ... something we should all hope to aspire to ...

An OAP takes their budgie to the vet. ÌýVet asks "How can I help you today?" OAP replies "Joey has been very still lately, can you give him the once over!"
The vet examines the budgie, turns and says "I'm sorry to inform you but your pet is dead!"
The OAP exclaims.. "No! He can't be, we've been friends for 87 years and Joey has a life expectancy of at least 150, I want a second opinion!"
The vet reluctantly agrees but advises the OAP of increasing costs.
"I don't care blurts the OAP just make Joey well again!"
The vet agrees and re-appears with a Labrador.. the dog looks at the dead bird and barks for a few seconds, turns and walks out the room.
"What did he say?" asks the pensioner.. "Joey's dead!" replied the vet.
"No way said the OAP, get me another opinionÌýplease!"
Again the vet shows great patience with the OAP and discusses the implications. ÌýBut the pensioner is adamant and demands a third opinion.
After several minutes the vet returns to the surgery accompanied by a cat. ÌýThe cat looks at the budgie and after a few seconds meows to the vet and then walks out.
"Well what did the cat say?" asks the OAP. Ìý"Not good" says the vet, "Joey is definitely dead!"
The pensioner looks at vet and says "I can't believe it but what you've said all along must have been true, how much do I own you?"
"£3,048.00" says the vet.
"How much?" asks the OAP.
"£3,048.00" repeats the vet.
"That's daylight robbery" moans the pensioner, "I'll expect a full breakdown of costs!"
"Certainly" says the vet, "that'll be £48.00 for the initial consultation, £1,000.00 for the lab report and £2,000.00 for the ct scan!"

I am at the most amazing Hindu wedding in the Science Centre - the bhangra band/djs are fantastic. Hundreds dancing joyously to fusion music, all ages, all creeds. No wonder I like Transglobal Underground! Great night - mental!

its very dark.
its early evening (maybe 6pm)
there is a gentle wrap on the door almost unheard through the constant howl of a force 10 blowing round the exposed remote homestead.
with some care and effort you open the door as the wind torrent blows open doors and slams the attic covering up and down.....
to be confronted by a 'figure' standing there in the stormy mayhem.
the 'figure' silently enters your house and sits down, without a word, in your kitchen.
there is no way of identifying who this voiceless person is as they are in 110% disguise with no visible signs of human flesh or bone.
ans so the process begins.
questions are asked, aimed at the silent figure.......a head is nodded in affirmative or otherwise............
'do you live nearby'?
'do you have any brothers or sisters'?
'do you own a green tractor'?...........endless questioning...............nodding up and down or side to side.....until you feel confident enough to venture a guess as to who it is sitting in front of you..............
get it wrong and the questioning continues.................get it right and the guest will reveal themselves with much merriment all round.....they will depart fuelled and onto the next unsuspecting random house (perhaps 10 miles away to further confuse the occupants).................
sitting in the glow of self satisfaction of having seen off the 'visitor'...........

midnight and a gentle wrap on the door can barely be heard through the now force11 breeze.........
and so this goes on into the early hours...........perhaps to 1am or 2am or even 3am
a procession of 'visitors'.............welcome to the hebrides and halloween..........by far the biggest night of the year......oustripping xmas, hogmonay, saturday night dances..........the disguises are elaborate, sometimes 2 people in the one disguise......and it can be quite unnerving and scary..........
and the children can be even more inventive!!
