I never quite got my head around "Hear the sound of one hand clapping"and I'm still not sure about what "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance"was actually about (loved the spanner/lotus motif though) so my choices are a bit simplistic.There seems to be a a touch of Zen in Donovan's"There is a Mountain" and I love the Beatles "Fool on the Hill"but my mantra would be the wise words of Kipling's "If"as put to music by Joni Mitchell.Superb Steely Dan feel to it or even better is her wonderful song about growing old "Happiness is the Best Facelift"Cheers,Willie Bartke

Quite seriously, pre-dating cognative therapy, neuro linguistic programming and all the rest of the psychobabble by at least 12 years came the most concise and brilliantly worded piece of philosophy, neatly summing up thousands of years of timeless wisdom.

I particularly like the line 'There's nowhere you can be that isn't where you're meant to be' - that doesn't suggest to me karmic fatalism nor a controlling external god, just that you'll move on when you're ready to, you can get there in the end. Twinned with the rest of the lyric, it is the most uplifting ,hopeful and inspirational song evr recorded.
