Today the postie delivered "The Complete Introduction To Northern Soul" box set complete with booklet about Wigan Casino etc. really well put together and well worth the 拢20 for 100 soul tracks, each more wonderful than the last. Some real gems on these, quite a lot of them new to me.

I'm indebted to Frank in Denny who kicked my interest off with a shout for Frank Wilson's 'Do I Love You (Indeed I Do), the other week. I was interested in Frank Wilson because of his later production/arrangement work for Motown ( Keep On Truckin' etc). I think Northern Soul may be my campaign for this year, and I commend this box set to the blogotariat.

#3 well done Henri. Ive had the Frank Wildon track on as well, the most expensive vinyl single sold at auction. The most fascinating thing about the whole northern soul scene to me was the way the DJs owned the records. They would go out and find rare soul songs or b sides and turn them into favourites on the motthern soul scene. However they would often cover up the labels so nobody knew what the song was or who it was by so mo other DJ could go out and get it. O ce I am on my laptop tomorrow night if I remember I will post you some interesting links.

And when i get back onto a decent sized keypad i promise my spelling will improve as well

Think this'll be a busy show tonight, hopefully with BB being allowed to use his knowledge of the genre to pick good (not just the best-known) tracks to play.

HH/Paolo...no surprise that I'd be more than happy for more Northern Soul to be played. Keep plugging away and I'll 'keep on keepin' on' with my occasional NS requests. Don't you just love when you go to a party where there's dancing and see the most of unlikely of middle-aged people who know how to do proper Northern Soul dancing? Used to have a particularly 'mumsy'-looking neighbour...never looked in the least bit energetic...who amazed us all at a party by getting up to dance only once during the evening but she danced as if she was at an all-nighter at Wigan Casino! She was great! Shouldn't judge a book...blahbedy-blah etc etc...

I salute your optimism Bloggers!

#32 How do you define a "busy show", JFE? Bryan often says this and I assume he means when there is an increase in request traffic. For us the listener though would a "busy show" mean more records played? Not sure thats true because in general the same amount of records are played every night (one or two less when Babs is on). Of course a "busy show" for Bryan should mean a less "busy show" for us coz he needs to spend more time giving mentions and less time playing music.

Well then, I would disagree with you there.
I'm not so sure that this theme will generate a high number of requests from the wider GIO audience..... but lets see.

A "busy" show is one where initial requests do not fit the playlist (approved at the monthly meeting) and some effort is then required to find the missing ones.

You should get a radio for your house.

Tonight's show will be busy enough, no doubt, but it will be the show's hard core supporters doing the requesting.

Not that it's going to be under subscribed or anything, but I suspect lots of multiple requests for the same artists/s - so in that sense, it might not be that busy.Once you've played an MCC track, that wipes a couple of dozen requests.

Big article in the Herald today about my old hero, Jack Bruce, who's doing a gig with Lau at Celtic Connections - that'll be plain weird.

Well, to be fair, I didn't mention the Krankies. I think I got moderated for speculating on how the meaning of words changes over time -it was all quite innocent stuff really - but perhaps my descriptions were too racy for the moderator to believe the blogotariat could cope with them.
