I've been following Radio 4's PM campaign for ' making the great leap', starting tomorrow, obviously. I'm going to do this. Still on the Springstein diet, Norrie?

Our hero is to be congratulated on two of the most diverse programes we've heard in a while, so all our blog debates count for something - those things that hurt, instruct.

However it is self defeating to be endlessly negative, one has to find a way of rewarding the appropriate behaviour.

So, informally, I've decided to monitor the playlist against the number of tracks/covers I was unfamilar with and allocate that number against the producer for the evening.

So far it's Richard 10, Kirsten 8. At the end of each month I'll award a 'Producer of the Month award' and later a 'Producer Of the Year' award, if I can maintain it that long.

Anyone want to join in/ how can we develop this?.

You know how lots of folk keep textin in telling Scotland what they're having for tea? Well the theme could be to make a song suggestion based around that meal eg

or

Yep, absolutely!

This bloggers endorsement, based upon eclecticism, whilst unlikely to form part of the internal appraisal system is nevertheless a useful addition to the CV and a handy thing to have sitting about the desk when Jeff swoops in from Inverness.

Moreover, striving to attain this award motivates the producer to be more influentially persuasive with our hero for the minority tracks in the nightly plebiscite, thus encouraging an interesting and diverse musical offering on a constant basis, without alienating the mainstream core audience. (this reads like a commissioning brief)

I will think about a gong for 'producer of the month' and there will be a proper trophy for 'producer of the year' -there should certainly be some function to present it and I'll have a think abut that too.

Hopefully my blogging peers will join in. First gong dished out for March but I'll carry the February ones forward.

So far I'm at Richard 10 - Kirsten 8. Tonight's will be tough because of the theme but 10 points for anything not heard before - Rex Titter's list will achieve that easily.

'The affectionate punch' by The ASSOCIATES was released in 1980. What I like about the introductory track are the eerie backing vocals. They seem to convey fear mixed with pathos.

Well D-K, I'm not a list fan. I think bloggers should restrict themselves to a max of four shouts a theme. They may have more than that that fit the theme but they should force themselves to choose the four they'd most like to hear on the show.
Also (although this is sometimes harder to do) they should should not request songs, which they know are rubbish, simply because they fit the theme (eg Lily the Pink the other week).

There is nothing clever about reproducing huge google/spotify/songfacts generated lists.
Not, I hasten to add, that I'm against using such methods as memory aids, but the selection process suggested above should then be employed.
