Here's a plea...

Chris Evans | 12:48 UK time, Tuesday, 7 February 2012

...Who doesn't love a biography ? But the phenomenon of biographies of bands is relatively new to me. The Beatles ? Yes, I've been there but this new read I'm experiencing is more of a ride really. The Led Zeppelin 'Hammer Of The Gods' book is something else.

Other band/non individual biog suggestions are welcome. Thanks. Now I'm off to catalogue some more cassettes whilst listening to Led Zep lV.

Catch up with the best bits of this morning with the new daily download right here.

Happy Tuesday you lot.

Peace and Love

I'm afraid the only Biogs I have read have been your own 2 Chris, which I have to say I did thoroughly enjoy, maybe I should embrace biogs a bit more.

    Chris,

Folklore - The Story of James - a superb read and written by Stuart Maconie. I heartily recommend it!

Another great Led Zep book is "When giants walked the earth" by Mick Wall. Playing the album which is being written about at the same as reading the book really brings it to life.

Those lads really used to give it a bit of stick back in the day didn't they?

    Hello Chris.

How about The Rolling Stones, The Bee Gees or The Beach Boys?

Hiya Chris, I cant recomend any bands biogs, but loving James Cordon one at the moment. Rob Brydon next in the pile and I've still got SRAlan and Ant & Dec from last year to go too!

New daily download - crikey! I'm still working out how to get the pod cast on my poddy thing!

Crumpy - you know me evil twin, I'm up for anything! I'm off to the Burgh tomorrow for 2 days but will be all work with my team setting us up for 2012, but we are doing an Auld Reekie haunted tour tomorrow night - luckily there is whisky and shortbread at the end to steady any nerves!

Right, lunch over, so back to the grind I must go

Happy Tuesday everyone, back on Friday!

    Hi all

CLP - I recently read a biog from the roadie for the animals (would be helpful if I remembered his name!). He also roadied some other groups in the 60's and 70's and had some great stories to tell - well worth a read (if you can ever find it from that descroption).

I would love a blog meet in Scotland, sounds like a great idea and worth us travelling up country for, or even fly :-)

Hi All, sorry for absinthe, I've been lurking but so busy & so much has happened - here are a few bits ....

The gorgeous Miss CG & her lovely husband got back from the wedding/honeymoon in NZ & moved house a week later so as you can imagine, Mr CG & I were on call for the moving process. Very tiring!

We lost one of our German Shepherd dogs last year (he was 13 so a good age) and we've been looking for another as Kingston (the other one) is lonely. We've found one in Suffolk & he is due to come home mid-March (a bit like your new puppy Deevs - exciting isn't it!!)

Mr CG's Mum died today - that's exactly the anniversary of my Mum dying - how strange is that? We were not close (in fact Mr CG hadn't seen her for 25 years.... don't ask!) Thinking of you though Gail as it sounds as though your Mum-in-law was a lovely lady. Thinking of you.

Work has been all-consuming recently, must get my life back & try to blog more!

Hope the rest of you are fit & dandy

    Laters ........

    CG xx

Hi all, just popping in to offer my condolences to Gail and David on the loss of Davids mum. It's never easy, but as has already been said, at least she didn't suffer for too long and had her family around her. xx

In other news, I just purchased Gok's biog this afternoon, called Through Thick and Thin. Can't wait to finish Paul O'Grady's 'At My Mothers Knee(and other low places)' before starting another! I also recommend John Peel's autobiog, 'Margrave of the Marshes', that was a great read.

Ta ta for now, Lin x

    Evening all,

Chris ,I'm like Gail ,don't read much ,and the last two I read also were yours ..but wouldn't mind knowing the title of the book that MC's reading at the mo ,sounds good.

Gail ,can I just add my condolences at the very sad passing of Davids dear mum ,I know that it was expected but it doesn't make it any easier when you loose a loved one .
I had a little smile when you said about the pair of you on your way home to bed and David's mum on the way ,now that you can not beat can you ,and what a lovely lady ,and what a great life shes had .

CG, sorry also to hear your news ,and yes how strange that it's a year to the day.you say that Mr CG and his mum weren't close ,he'll probably still feel it in a strange sort of way eh!!.

Crissie ,that brings me to thinking of you and wondering how your day has gone ,I managed to have a walk out with the dogs at work lunch time ,so had a walk around Langston Harbour and was thinking that if the weather was as nice up there with you ,then its been a grand day to say goodbye to you friend .

It was Grumpy that said it would be nice to have a blog meet north of the border so if there is going to be one some when this year ,I just might have to put my name down . not into flying so it would have to be train or car..and take a week off work and make a few days and do some sights .So if there is going to be one can it be a summer one please.

    Take care Bids.xxx.

    Evening each

I love biographies. Just finished James Cordens - really good.

Girlracer, really liked Goks too. And I loved Eric Burden's, he was really honest about what an idiot he'd been when he was young, but it was really funny too.

Gail, so sorry to hear your news.

Now, who's talking about an Edinburgh meet? Excellent idea.

Was in Edinburgh this morning at the dentists - not quite as enjoyable as meeting you lot, have to say.

Not strictly a band biography but "Life" by Keith Richards is a good read, amazing really that the man is still alive.

  • Comment number 18.

I highly recommend 'Bad Vibes' by Luke Haines. It's his account of the Brit Pop phenomenem viewed from his position as lead singer and driving force behind The Auteurs. It's acerbic, viscious, incredibly witty, beautifully written and a compulsive read. Some hilarious swipes at Blur, Oasis, Suede et al. It also made me search out and listen to some of the Auteurs' albums - and they're surprisingly good!

  • Comment number 19.

Of course if we extend the band biog thing to movies the best ever must be "This is Spinal Tap"

    Turn it up to eleven!

    Hi everyone:

First of all, Gail, I am so sorry to hear David's Mum has passed away. Please tell him I am thinking about him and yes, it was a shame he didn't get there in time, but it is good she was not alone. xx From your description, she sounds like she was a really lovely lady.

Everything yesterday went very well. A beautiful funeral, Church totally full and just dozens of flowers - wreaths for ever more. With all her children, grandchildren, in laws etc, the family amounts to 85 of them! Unfortunately, two of the sisters were terribly upset and I really did feel for them. But in the main, it was a day of celebration.

Thanks Bids for your wee messages to me. xx

CG: that really is a remarkable coincidence about Mr CG's Mum passing away on your Mum's anniversary. Very sad that they were estranged, but sometimes it's just the way it is.

Debs: you might not get to see this, but my advice is have a whisky BEFORE the Auld Reekie thing tonight - it is terrifying! I received both Rob Brydon and James Corden's books for my birthday, and they are excellent. And Ant & Dec's is terrific - they are so candid.

    I love autobiographies!

Now, a Scottish blog meet - I will get in touch with our lovely Scottish bloggers, and we'll get back to you all with a few dates and some interesting activities. And, no, I don't mean just staying in the pub!

    Have a good day, all.

    C xx

    Good morning everyone,

Chrissie - Glad everything went well yesterday, I think D's Mum's funeral will be like that next week, a celebration of her life, which I think she really made the most of.

Now this Scottish Meet sounds great!!

Yesterday our cat Jensen had to go to the vets to have several teeth removed so last night he was feeling extremely sorry for himself as he was gumming away at his tuna!!

    Have a good day.
