I am going on holiday to the Shetland Islands next week, a couple of days after the live appeal. Whilst up there
I have decided to make myself useful and I am going to be doing a 6 mile/3 hour sponsored walk up Ronas Hill, the highest hill on the islands. As I am going to be up there for midsummer I may even do the walk at night depending on the light and the weather etc...

Have a sure-fire way of raising lots more money for Ö÷²¥´óÐã Wildlife Fund - get some of Martin's stuff on the auction!!! Chris's t-shirts and signed photos are great, but we need something from Martin!! (personal favourite for signed photo would be publicity shot from management company's site, but that's just me!!) Trust me, anything Martin has worn or used in the series would raise you plenty - there are lots more out there who just can't get enough of Martin...

I agree with MartinsGirl, we need signed photos of Martin or any item of clothing to raise loads of money. WE JUST LOVE MARTIN!!!I hope we see more of him on wildlife programmes in the future. We just can't get enough of him!!!

Glad you agree hairycat, and don't think we're the only ones! As you so rightly say, we just can't get enough of MH-G!!!! Martin has been making a new series for the Ö÷²¥´óÐã, 'Nature's Miracle Babies' - 5 x 1 hour long episodes, which will be broadcast in 2011. So plenty of Martin to look forward to, with Autumnwatch as well!

Yes, come on Martin! What do you think? A rather fetching pose on your motorbike or a "Mr Darcy style wet look pose" would be much appreciated. I'm sure they would raise 100's of pounds! (More than Mr Packham!). Please, please, please, we need your photos!!

Just to clarify - not quite sure why but sometimes I seem to appear as secondself1800 and other times as MartinsGirl - I am one and the same person, in fact!

I just looooove the countryside, I collect dead seed heads and insects, take moulds, and create exact replicas in solid metal. I'm driven by the idea that the fragile forms would have decayed into the ground and I have now made them into pieces that are here forever.
When I set my website up I put a link to the Ö÷²¥´óÐã Wildlife Fund to help raise awareness of our wildlife (I did write to ask!)
I now donate £1 from each sale to the Ö÷²¥´óÐã Saving Planet Earth Wildlife Fund.

I try to use it as simply as possible, letting the original organic form be focal point, going for a walk with me takes a looong long time! :)

hello, im chris and im going to sell some of my trading cards (pokemon/yugioh) to raise money to top off the total :).
i loved the wild night in show tonight, was awsome!
spring/autumwatch are awsome aswell plus the unsprung keeps me glued to the screen.

As much as I enjoyed watching Wild night in last night, and I did donate, the causes are brilliant and well deserved, I was just abit concerned that neither in the show nor on the wildlife fund website does it mention any support for Asian elephants - the ones you primarily find in zoos and circuses.
There are a mere 35,000 Asian elephants left in the wild -across the whole of Asia, with 15,000 in captivity across the world. 35,000 is about 10-15% of the African population in the wild - minute in comparison, there are so many charities across Asia that take in elephants (not the elephant camps -theyre evil), saving them from a life of dispair and pain from the tourist industry, illegal logging. The 4 (possibly 5) subspecies of Asian elephant rarely have tusks, (females don't, only Indian bulls have tusks, even then not all of them) yet they are still activly poached, as their tusks are softer than an African elephants making them easier to work on.
Approx. 50+ elephants get killed in India every year by trains as they decided they would build a massive trainline through the elephants corridors. The train drivers see the elephants but just dont stop.
In as little as 15 years and the Asian elephant could become extinct.
Many are taken into the tourist trade, some of which you may have seen 'celebrating the world cup with dancing', these elephants are taken from a young age, possibly seeing their mothers and families die, beaten into submission- literally, with bullhooks, rocks, their legs tied together so they cannot escape. Elephants cry, they feel pain and this is done for what?? our amusement to see them dancing?? or the thrill of feeding them a banana??? its horrendous, I would love the bbc wildlife fund to get in touch with The Wildlife Friends of Thailand, they rescue many animals including elephants, bears and gibbons. They have done some filming with Animal Planet, people like them deserve the money to continue to save the Asian elephant.
