On one of his many trips out with the poodles, Chris Packham was also on the trail of purple emperors. Watch him employ some pretty disgusting techniques learned from the Victorians to lure these impressive beauties.

Bill Oddie had more luck on a cloudy afternoon by the coast spotting some of our best known butterflies.

Finally, Mike Dilger's seven hours hunting in the reed beds of Norfolk for Nature's Calendar were rewarded with a sight of Britain's largest butterfly.
