The world鈥檚 biggest annual sporting event comes to Yorkshire on Saturday, with all eyes as ever on the forecast!
听
The Tour de France cycling race begins on Saturday morning in Leeds, ending on Sunday afternoon in Sheffield, covering around 250 miles.
听
And right on cue, our weather is turning much more unsettled.
听
The biggest uncertainty centres on an active cold front heading in from the Atlantic later on Friday.
听
Its clearance on Saturday morning may be delayed by a wave on the cold front, which has been signalled in the last few days by several models.
听
However, in the last 12 hours the expected clearance has speeded up a little.
听
So with this uncertainty in mind about the clearance of the rain听on Saturday, the forecast is as follows:

Friday evening: Very wet for campers pitching their tents!
听
Saturday: Overnight rain clearing,听brightening up听through the morning with sunny spells developing, but听with听a risk of听one or two听showers later. Maximum temperature 20C (68F). Moderate Southwest wind.

Sunday: Fine and sunny start. Scattered showers developing into the afternoon, locally heavy with the risk of thunder, but with good sunny spells in-between. Maximum temperature 19C (66F). Moderate Southwest wind.

Last week I stated that the hottest year on record was 1998 according to the Met Office鈥檚 HADCRUT measure. That was the case for many years, but like many datasets HADCRUT3 has been revised (to HADCRUT4) the result of which pushes 1998 to third place.
