A mostly fine Bank Holiday weekend - but watch out for frost
Paul Hudson
The early May Day Bank Holiday has been plagued by bad weather since it began in 1978.
听
In that year an easterly block brought unseasonably cold and cloudy weather to many areas, with plenty of rain across the south.
听
We had to wait until May 1989 for the first fine and warm May Day Bank Holiday Monday. 听
听
But following on from last year鈥檚 mostly fine bank holiday weather, the weather this weekend is looking quite promising.
听
High pressure will bring a lot of settled weather across the country, with a big improvement developing across our region on Friday after what鈥檚 been a poor day today.
听
A weak weather front will bring cloudier conditions from the west on Sunday, and a risk at least of some drizzle mainly to the Pennines, but much of the Bank Holiday weekend looks fine.
听
Gardeners will need to keep an eye on overnight temperatures though, particularly on Friday and Saturday night, with a risk of a widespread ground frost and even an air frost in some areas.
听
After Bank Holiday Monday, the weather turns distinctly unsettled, so as usual it will be a case of enjoying the fine weather while it lasts.
