    Loving Matt Bakers moves.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first show tonight, and think that we are really in for a great series. I found Matt a total revelation, and Pamela was superb. Many laughs tonight too. Love the new set, and Tess has her special 'booth' upstairs which pretty well matches that on Dancing with the Stars. Well done to all - I am looking forward to tomorrow.

Fantastic opening show for the new series guys, well done to all at Ö÷²¥´óÐã Television Centre!! The biggest surprise for me HAS to be Matt Baker!!! His Cha-Cha-Cha was electric and blew me away!! I definitely think he's going to be one to watch and is this years 'Gethin Jones'! Will be interesting to see if his Ballroom matches up to his Latin?? Pamela and Scott were also fantastic too!! Shaping up for a great series!!!!

great firstshow well done all of you

  • Comment number 5.

Wow...Matt Baker is my favourite! !

Found Paul Daniels' comments to Craig Revel-Horwood about "go back to your day job of tasting sausages" offensive and homophobic. That kind of Jim Davidson derogatory "humour" aimed at gay people is simply NOT acceptable in today's UK.

My scores for the first 7
Matt (The Hips) Baker - 8
    Pamela (What a Surprise) Stephenson - 7
    Felicity (Undermarked) Kendall - 7
Scott (Must do Better) Maslen - 5
    Paul (Magic) Daniels - 5
Goldie (Put some effort in) - 4
Patsy (Nervous Nelly) Kensit - 4
Best start ever overall. Looking forward to tomorrows show.

Absolutely fantastic first show however I have to question the logic about entering Paul Daniels, as fantastic a magician he is, he truly isn't a dancer and I feel truly sorry for Ola. She is a wonderfully passionate dancer who has been lumbered with a (sorry but) past it old man. I want to watch an exciting passionate dancing competition not a programme that is trying to compensate for all ages. I'm sure the over 60's want to see exciting dancing!!!! Loving Jack from Eastenders that is the best first dance I have ever watched and it did what I believe the programme is meant to (made me feel excited enough to want to do it!). Patsy, followed a bit of your life, loving that you've entered and truly hopes this builds your confidence. I can see that you are feeling a little uncomfortable - believe in yourself, you are pretty you just need to believe in yourself again, your partner is handsome, believe the nice things he tells you an be a sexy woman again, we all deserve to be! Good Luck to everyone, Ola - perhaps next year will be yours, Em x

  • Comment number 10.

I do hope that someone makes it clear that Paul's comment was about

    BRITISH SAUSAGE WEEK

and not anything more unpleasant as some people have thought.

  • Comment number 11.

I'm not a trained dancer but I thought that Paul Daniels did all the steps for a cha cha cha exactly as he would have been taught - AND with some sense of rhythm. He's not a trained dancer and he's not as young as he used to be and yet was quite nimble around the dance floor. I was quite impressed at how well he performed. So how could the judges be so harsh? He did a good job for a first dance in my opinion and to receive those comments from Bruno was inappropriate. Ditto the scores. A score of 2 is just insulting! Please don't spoil the show by turning it into an insensitive, insulting, celebrity-bashing session.

  • Comment number 12.

Wow!!! Nat and Scott managed to make the waltz SERIOUSLY sexy! Can't wait for more ...

  • Comment number 13.

In what way has Craig Revel-Horwood been involved in British Sausage Week for Paul Daniels to make a comment like that?

  • Comment number 14.

I've just googled it. Thanks, flea, for giving me the heads up.

I apolgise to Mr. Daniels and take back my righteous indignation. LOL.

  • Comment number 15.

I agree JGC, I thought that Paul did very well.

    He's 72 for goodness sake!

  • Comment number 16.

Wow! I am quite suprised. Has Mat had previous training? He was out of this world. Pam I thought would do well, and she did. I'm a fan of James Jordan so hope they go far. Wierdly I thought Paul was ok, he kept up with the moves and finished them well. He wasn't timid like some other first timers. I think Patsy is better than she thinks. She is just very nervous. I felt like she was having a panick attack just before every move. I think what Len said was true, she has got potential and needs to let her nerves get out so she can show us that she is good. As always I found myself watching Kristina more than her partner! She is always smoking! Can't wait till tomorrow!

    This explains the sausage comment.

"Craig Revel Horwood announced as face of British Sausage Week

    30 September 2010

Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood has teamed up with British Sausage Week as this year's 'King of the Sizzle'. The awareness week launches on November 1 during which Craig joins the British Sausage Appreciation Society to find the finest sausage in the country. Regional winners are selected for the Banger Award during the week and receive a donation to the charity of their choice. British Sausage Week celebrates the taste, quality and diversity of the sausage; independent butchers and supermarkets run events and special offers, while pubs and restaurants offer sausage-themed menus. Previous celeb supporters include Paul Daniels, Debbie McGee, Phil Tufnell, Dale Winton, Lesley Waters, Christine Hamilton and Carol Thatcher. "

  • Comment number 18.

WOW! Amazing first show. I was pleasantly surprised. I loved last years so thought this year would be a let down. Pamela Stephenson and Matt Baker were amazing. I found Billy's comment about watching Pamela dance (he found it moving) very moving!

  • Comment number 19.

I'm sorry JGC and Flea, I really appreciate that Paul is 72 and that dancing isn't his skill. I also appreciate that SCD is for all levels of dancers/non dancers but to team Paul Daniels up with a woman like Ola is purely mean. Surely everyone (certainly I do) watches this programme to make them believe theat they too can dance like this at some stage in their life. Lets face it, is SCD decided to let joe public enrole in this competition I'd love the chance to be able to dance some of these damces with their professionals (here's hoping) Em x

  • Comment number 20.

Some of them seemed to suffer from nerves but hopefully with a first dance under their belt we'll see how much better they'll be nexk week. All in all though, really enjoyed the first six opener. Scott Maslan was a thumbs up, Matt Baker a DOUBLE thumbs up and Pamela a solid thumbs up as well!

The only thing I was suprised by was the standing ovation for each couple, lol. I appreciate the audience showing support for the couples efforts, but, I would prob leave such big applause for the best performed dances... just maybe :)

  • Comment number 21.

Matt is by far the front runner, hes a natural dancer and has perfect timing. He deserves to go a long way.

  • Comment number 22.

Felicty Kendall is a delight but surprise of the evening was Pamela Stephenson, she radiated joy as she danced.

Where did Matt Baker find those hips - the costumes [trousers particularly] were off putting but a brilliant first week - sharper though not as fluid as Ramps

  • Comment number 23.

I understand, belleoftheforum, that Once upon a time, Matt was a gymnast. Hope that asnwers your question. Going to be great, isn't it !

  • Comment number 24.

You gogo, Mat Baker a great first dance you have my vote

  • Comment number 25.

I thought I'd switched onto Dancing with the Stars by mistake

    Tacky set
Very few 'celebs' I'd ever heard of before
Comments from the panel more scripted than ever
Choice of music and standard of 'singing' - well what can I say - worst ever
    Only Brucey held it together

I think the Pro dancers who opted to miss this series knew what they were doing

    Awful 2/10

  • Comment number 26.

BRILLIANT!!!! What a fantastic first show! Everyone was great, even Paul surpassed my expectations (sorry Paul). For me the people to watch are Pamela Stephenson and Matt Baker. If tonight is anything to go by they are going to be around until the final weeks of the competition. Roll on six o'clock tonight - I can hardly wait!!

  • Comment number 27.

Wow, Matt was amazing :) And Pamela was surpisingly great :D
    Can't wait till tonight, Ahhh!!

  • Comment number 28.

Just a thought. I do think that in the results programme it would be a great idea for the judges to nominate an 'Encore dance' so we could enjoy again the dance from the current week that the judges consider being worth a second airing, as they have adopted in the Dancing with the Stars version of Strictly.

  • Comment number 29.

Wow, Scott was great for the first week ... and will surely be one to watch out for in the men. See what Saturday brings.

Hated the unsuitable music for Kristina and Goldie's Cha Cha though, wish they'd use proper dance music instead of trying to adapt modern music which doesn't always work rhythmically ... must have hindered Goldie's performance somewhat.

Pamela, Matt, Felicity ... all great too.

  • Comment number 30.

Pamela Stephenson was amazing. Her and James make a good team. The music and the song choice was amazing. Had me in tears - simply stunning.

  • Comment number 31.

Fantastic show - only complaint was that the set seems to have gone a bit tacky, less classy. Matt was brilliant, Paul actually proved he could dance - his nerves made him show off I think. Ola had to have a difficult partner to balance last years win - its NOT a competition for the professionals. Thats why Brendan has a cracker (he says) because its been a while . . . . Looking forward to tonight

Hats off to Hugh_Tube - very rare to see someone apologise online!

  • Comment number 32.

Looking at the line-up this year I didn't hold out much hope I'm afraid, but how wrong could I be? it was a fantastic first night. Matt Baker's cha-cha what a treat! Pamela and James are obviously going to be a great team. Scott and Nat were simply brilliant and her choreography was just so hot! If Patsy can conquer those nerves she too can be a contender. What a wonderful start to the series can't wait to see the final six tonight.

  • Comment number 33.

Fantastic show. The wows were Scott & Natalie, loved the choreography and think they are a great pairing. Matt & Aliona again great pairing and can't wait to see more. Pamela and James moved me to tears, from the start it was a breathtaking Waltz. Well done everyone, enjoyed them all.

  • Comment number 34.

Great 1st programme Strictly with lots of entertainment, glitz and surprises. Matt what a great surprise such promise and Dr Pam you looked amazing and so stylish and we could all see how much you enjoyed the dance with James and you are a fab partnership. Paul Daniels entertained us and for 72 years young you were good and better than the Sargent! Dress designers please note Paty looked good in red, but why that style you did Patsy no favours she still has a good figure and had a "bad year" so please let lift her confidence and design some better styles for Patsy. This is -perhaps the worse fitting dress and you are so talented with the celeb dancers in the past! Looking forward to the new series as ever!

  • Comment number 35.

fantastic. my only complaint was how late this first show was given that my kids would like to watch it live. but watching the taped version isn't the end of the world i guess. i'm so excited about tonight's show!

  • Comment number 36.

I think you should not post comments like that on here Rokerman. If you are not a fan of scd then you shouldn't waist your time writing negative things about it. Go on to another site and complain there. Here is on for people who like the show.

  • Comment number 37.

Loved the show last night, so glad it's back!! Thought some of the scores were a little high for the first show, 8s, really! Matt & Pam were brill though, can't wait for tonight & it takes two back on Monday!

  • Comment number 38.

Overall I enjoyed last night's show, and I thought the standard of dancing was very good from all couples, given that we are only in week one.

There were a couple of things I didn't like so much. One was all the props and gimmicks, and I'm very surprised Len didn't say anything about this, as we know he always says how much he dislikes "faffing about".

The other was all the standing ovations. What was all that about? Do the dancers really need everyone to leap out of their seats just because they've managed to get to the end of their routines??I could almost believe the audience was asked to do this..............

Having said all this, I'm really looking forward to part two tonight, especially Jimi and Miss Widdecombe!

You're most welcome Hugh, it's not common knowledge after all.

    :)

  • Comment number 41.

Just watched the last 7 tonight, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can the camera men or controller of them let us see MORE SHOTS OF THE FEET, during the routines, I do a bit of ballroom dancing and just love to look at the feet,
    any thanks

  • Comment number 42.

SO glad to have Strictly back where it belongs on Saturday night.
Enjoyed last night's programme, especially Matt and Scott. Tonight's highlight for me was Gavin Henson, who was much better than I expected and certainly looked the part.
Think Anton has drawn the short straw AGAIN this year!
Might be an idea to give the dancers time to properly catch their breath before the sprint up the stairs to chat with Tess.

  • Comment number 43.

Great shows last night and tonight suprise of the show so far Pamela - Go Girl -fantastic!!! and looked absolutley gorgeous! other favorites Matt and Jack Jimmy and Kara- loved the outfit! cant wait for take two to start.

  • Comment number 44.

Strictly, absolutely FABULOUS, Matt to win! However can't they find someone other than Tess daly as co host as she is so wooden and unnatural it is truly awful to watch.

  • Comment number 45.

I hope Tina and Jared stay in. To have achieved so much in life already, they are good role models for young people in this day and age and are very polite and well spoken.

  • Comment number 46.

Not sure of where to pose this question , but am disappointed that unlike in previous years, we cannot see individual routines as danced by our couples on the Strictly Website, only the odd 'snatched ' minute here and there by just one or two couples. It was so nice to be able to re-watch and then compare. Will this be available as the Series progresses?
