The Broadway idea is quite good but presume there are going to be loads of props involved and as we have discovered already that's not always a good thing. I do hope this isn't going to be the beginning of dumbing down the whole programme - it is supposed to be a dance competition and not pantomime after all. It will be interesting to see what Artem decides to do with Nancy! I will reserve judgement.

Flatfeet, I'm afraid that this show has been dumbed down for the last couple of years since Moira Ross became the producer, and the Broadway theme is just going to continue the rather tragic direction things are going in.
The sad thing is that production team obviously think all this is fantastic.

Theme nights are fine as long as there are NO obtrusive props. Discreet props that enhance the story are fine; large props that detract from the dance are not. Please take note Ö÷²¥´óÐã.

I agree that small props are preferable, if at all. I think the trailer is brilliant, so well done for that. Edwina is so typecast, she scares the s**t out of me. Did she swallow the boa?

I am at times frustrated by the idea of props but I am bemused by the fact we already have a week where we have the partnerships being given a free licence which as I understand it is the stipulation for this week.

Usually the right to choose one unlearned style is reserved for later in the series around the time of the quarter-finals. But to my knowledge there is 10 new dance forms that they haven't been given yet. With so much choice it won't be as much of a challenge as it is when it is used later in the series, surely.

I think the thinking among the partnerships when it is applied around Week 6 or thereabouts is, "alright, we have only three to choose from (x, y and z). Which is the one most likely to play to our strengths?". When the right to choose an unlearned dance is applied as early as Week 3 what is the thinking more likely to be when the teams have the full spectrum of dance styles to choose from?

No doubt Aliona will ruin her routine by setting it to some irrelevant contemporary music. Part of the romance of Broadway is the music so I hope they stick to it. Aliona is lovely and a brilliant dancer but personally i just cant stand her choreography and I think she would be better in a modern dance troupe. Last year her American Smooth and Quickstep were both a disappointment even though Matt baker danced them both almost perfectly.

Broadway or Panto: fun though.

I agree in the main that Aliona is too "newfangled" for some of the judges' tastes; however, Matt's American Smooth was one of the most beautiful dances last season, full stop.

Less said about his show dance, however, the better.

Instead of the public voting for their favourite right at the start, why can't they just vote for the bottom four with the judges then deciding who they want to keep out of the bottom two.

Then when there are fewer dancers then the public can vote for their favourite.

At least that way we would get rid of the 'rubbish' dancers early on and not one of the good ones.

Yes SCDFanatic, I to am bemused by having a free style dance this early in the competition. I feel that the competitors will not yet have the skills or grace to carry this off. I fear a lot of stumbles, bad lifts and forgotten steps. BY week 6 the competitors should have enough confidence in their basic steps to be able to let fly with the showbiz part of the dance. It must be hard to give lots of pizzazz when you have to think about every step.
