Week 9 - Leaderboard

Post categories:

Ö÷²¥´óÐã Strictly Kirstie | 20:53 UK time, Saturday, 26 November 2011

It was double trouble for our seven remaining couples who found themselves facing two dances this week, as they tackled the Swing-a-thon alongside a regular Ballroom or Latin number.

Harry McFlew once again to the top of the leaderboard with his double dancefloor victory. He scored a whopping seven points for his energetic Swing-a-thon sprint, whilst securing a stellar three tens for his Quickstep.

Meanwhile Robbie found himself at the bottom of the scoreboard this week after failing to impress with his Samba. He was also first to be asked to leave the floor during the Swing-a-thon which left him on a total of 26 points.

But which of our couples did enough to stay in?

Here are the scores for Week 9 - find out who will be leaving for good on Sunday at 7.25pm on Ö÷²¥´óÐã One.

An entertaining night on the dance floor. Not suprised that there were a lot of standing ovations although I didn't particularly feel that Robbie or Anita warranted theirs and in my book they both deserve to be in the bottom 2. If one of them escapes the bottom 2 I hope the other one goes because I felt everyone else did very well.

Holly & Artem performed a beautiful and showbiz style foxtrot although like (most of you who heard their choice of music) I felt the music choice was questionable at best and I definetely feel it cost them an extra mark from Len. Alex did a better Charleston than her score (from Craig in particular) suggested and I felt Jasons Charleston was also good. Chelsee did a good Argentine Tango although her discomfort with being passionate was clear to see and the performance of the night was from Team Hali with that sensational quickstep. It had that real wow factor and fully deserved the 3 10s.

The swingathon was entertaining. Team Hali obviously won (although I felt it was very tight between them and Team Chasha as to who would win it) but for me the real winners were Alex & James and Chelsee & Pasha as their performances saw them both rise an extra place on the judges leaderboard.

The only people other than Robbie and Anita who I thin are in danger of leaving are 1) Alex because despite rising a place through her swingathon performance she is still 3rd from bottom and 2) Holly because she is the only person other than Anita to have finished in the bottom 2 and is therefore on the publics hunted list and just like last week she finds herself in the place most people say you are at your most vulnerable - in the middle of the judges leaderboard.

  • Comment number 2.

To get good marks you need 4 things - choreography, execution, music and costumes.

Unlike last week, when the music choices and costumes were dreadful most pairings got this bit right. The biggest exception was Artem's choice of music. What could have been a classic Foxtrot was ruined.

Harry n Ali were the deserved stars. The quickstep was sublime, while coming back to deliver such a high energy swingathon immediately afterwards was incedible.

I suspect, unless the sympathy factor creeps in, that Anita is in trouble. I hope Alex survives - and would like to see Robbie doing just one more ballroom dance.

  • Comment number 3.

Results now in on internet. Bit delayed tonight. Does anyone else miss results on the same night whilst you are still in the Strictly mood?

  • Comment number 4.

New competitor? Dog has got the sway!

  • Comment number 5.

Agree with comments 1. and 2. re Alex. Thought Craig marked very harshly and she deserved a higher total score for the Charleston. She did well on the swingathon dance. Hope she survives tonight's Results Show.

I think it's time for either Robbie or Anita to go.

  • Comment number 6.

I love strictly, but am getting a bit tired of the audience giving a standing ovation for every dance. Sorry but this makes a mockery of those who deserve it.....Sure everyone is trying hard, but please cut it out. On Saturday there were only 3 couples who deserved it, Jason, Chelsea and Harry....the others were good, but not brilliant....anyone else sick of the falesness......one thing further.....I have other moans, but love the dancing, so maybe I will record it and fast forward through the boring bits....

  • Comment number 7.

Last night's show was much better. Didn't anyone at the Ö÷²¥´óÐã read comments about the Wembley show? The majority of people seemed to think last week's show was terrible - too big, too noisy, too, too much.
Well done Harry. Keep it up. You deserve to win.

  • Comment number 8.

    Hi all,

It was a good show last night but for me at least 4 of the field are running out of ideas or running out of steam.

The top 3 standouts for me without a doube were Chelsee and Pasha, Harry and Aliona, and Jason and Kristina.

It was a great week at the office for Harry and Aliona complimented with well deserved marks for his Quickstep and topped off with a win in the Swingathon but for that quickstep was fab-uo-lous all of the floor covered fast speedy and quick on his feet for me Harry smashed it last night best dance of the night by a mile and to borrow a cliche he owned that dancefloor.

Though she came out with a grin on her face and it lacked intensity for me and at times seduction Chelsee really delivered all the steps were there she could have had a bit more chemistry with Pasha but deep down Chelsee for me can go all the way to Blackpool for the final.

For fun and slapstick I award the win in the Battle Of The Charleston's to Jason and Kristina it had everything in it fun routine with a lot of comedy and I really did love Jason's facial routines though the photo on the website his face looked as if he had just discovered a spider on Kristina's dress but apart from that he threw everything at that dance and it paid off.

For me these three as potential finalists because week on week they are delivering showstopping routines Chelsee needs to work on her acting and Jason needs to keep going forward in his Strictly journey but for me these are the top 3 for me and deserve to go all the way to Blackpool.

  • Comment number 9.

I've been a SCD fan for sometime now and have a question, "Is the idea that when voting one should choose a Celeb?" I have only EVER voted for the gorgeous Ola! My phone bill takes a right hammering in November each year!

  • Comment number 10.

The next two in the magnificant 7 Holly and Arten and Alex and James personally for me are slowly coming to the end of the road for me.

I mean whetever possessed Artem to choose that rubbish music choice for a Foxtrot because at the end of it I could swear there were bits of Paso Doble thrown in for good measure but for me he needs to go and take a masterclass with Derek Hough in music choice and mood in a foxtrot because I got a youtube of Derek and his celeb partner Brooke Burke from Seasin 8 in Dancing With The Stars and you could just see the mood the jazz music Derek in his tuxedo and Brooke in her fantastic evening dress the closeup of Derek sashaying down the stiars the look of seduction and love in his eyes when his eyes met Brooke and they danced cheek to cheek for me Artem miss the point completley it looked more like a Foxtrot based on a Quentin Tarrintino film the Russian gangster and his moll.

With James and Alex they seem to be running out of ideas that Charleston was way to safe and a bit basic and it wasn't sharp enough for me they could have taken a few risks and thrown in a few comedy moves into the routine and James sulking like a schoolboy when he was being interviewed by Tess didn't help either these two need to start taking risks with their routines if they want to even reach the semi finals.

Artem's music choices will totally let him down if he keeps going with them and James and Alex's basic routines will also let them down and for me I can only see these two couples getting as far as the semi finals.

  • Comment number 11.

Now for the bottom two and Anita with Brendan or Robin and Robbie and Ola have run out of steam run out of luck and for me tonight and next week it's end of the line for both couples.

Anita and Brendan that routine would never have worked whether she was dancing with Brendan or Robin because as far as I'm concerned Anita is going home tonight it's a foregone conclusion that Cha Cha Brendan was putting all the work in while Anita just pranced about and she lacked basic dance moves and in a Cha Cha you expect it to be sexy the only sexy thing in it for me was Brendan's shirt buttoned down so you could see some of his chest.

It gets bad when Robbie has to get his trousers off to secure votes I mean personally speaking I was liking some aspects of that Samba last night even though he did look as if he was plodding round the floor but the minute he started bumping and gyrating his hips, thighs, chest and groin and shaking his bum and then topping it off by whipping his trousers off to reveal a pair of football shorts it killed it stone dead for me that painted a picture for me of the hunky stripper couldn't make the hen night so he sent the other talentless one along lacking in sex appeal if he was aiditining for the Chippendales Robbie you don't have the legs and your chest could do with some serious weight training if you want to even come up to the standards of beefcakes such as Robin, Artem and Pasha.

For me Anita definitley to go tonight followed very closely by the poor woman's strippergram.

    That's it for me

  • Comment number 12.

Sorry but Robbie you will have go out tonight as we want to see dancing not Stripping your time is up.
Go back to the football and the best of luck.

  • Comment number 13.

I wanted to call the phone number but it did not exist. Is it not possible to call from abroad? Sorry for Harry and Aliona :-)

  • Comment number 14.

Congratulations to the Ö÷²¥´óÐã for hosting another brilliant show; a welcome return from last week's debacle.

I do think Ola has to take some of the blame for how she has shaped Robbie's abilities and persona. With less jumps, lifts and knee slides, he may have mastered the dance content to a greater degree by now and she may have included more of it in the routines.

Harry & Aliona have been sublime at times - magnificent this week - my only worry is that Len is still holding a grudge and that this week's mark was a gesture. Hopefully he has liked them all along and has been nitpicking only to ensure they didn't get 10s too early.

Chelsee too, was brilliant this week. Jason not far behind, It's between these three for who wins, but really, it should be Harry.

Agree with others about Holly and Alex - too little, too late. They can be stylish and precise, but the routines are often tediously slow and this is amplified by the inappropriate choice of fast, racy music.

  • Comment number 15.

I have to say how disappointed I am with Len. He is being rude more frequently now and not just to the other panelists. He was rude to Chelsee this week when she didn't understand elope straight away. Shape up or ship out I reckon!

  • Comment number 16.

    12. 41 dancer

Three quick points. He is newly retired, Harry goes bare chested often enough with no complaints and also whoever's decision it was for him to put that content in needs shooting. But that's all it was. Simply a bad decision.

We go back to a one unlearned dance rule next week and he only has a two in five chance of picking a Ballroom. The Quickstep and the Viennese Waltz. The others are The Charleston, Tango and Rumba. But whatever he chooses I assure you he won't be caught dead wearing boxers with fake football numbers on it. None of those allow him to pull that stunt again anyway. The Tango and Rumba aren't Ballroom and they are both 'hold' routines. And both play to his strength of fine footwork if he can retune his sense of his footwork to dancing the Tango rather than what he was used to at clubs like Blackburn and Derby.

  • Comment number 17.

Overall not bad night. To many standing ovations, Artems music was questionable for a foxtrot but nice to see Len's back on the medication. agree with leaderboard best dance of the night Harry's quickstep. could we please get back to results on a saturday night, it's not difficult (as i have just found out) to get the result on the internet

  • Comment number 18.

I guess you may have all heard the news on the Ö÷²¥´óÐã Sport homepage. Gary Speed who was cheering on Robbie Savage only a few weeks ago on the show has died. Hung himself. Personal issues.

My condolences go to his friends and family. Of course to Robbie too. I am a Sunderland fan and he was very popular up the road with the mags in Newcastle so I am numb too.

    RIP Gary.

  • Comment number 19.

I agree whole heartedly with your sentiments SCDFanatic.

  • Comment number 20.

Well just watched last night and thought everyone including robbie uped their game although why why why ola? You could end up turning robbie into the Russell grant of the show and please don't. On the subject of robbie and ola, I felt that Aleisha didn't articulate very well the reasons for robbie and ola leaving 1st during the swing a-thong, she made it sound like they couldn't focus on everyone so just focused on them 1st instead of surveying the floor.

I think Chelsea and Harry were fantastic, but Len was bang out of order when Chelsea expressed she didn't understand the word elope, not everyone can be as "educated as you Len".

Alex and James were scored IMO correctly I found their dance just lacked something, Jason and Kristina were good and that hurts saying that as I have not warmed to Jason at all and if he left this week I wouldn't really care.

I think this week holly and Anita and Alex are in trouble, Robbie will be safe as he is at the bottom and people will pick up and vote, holly Alex and Anita are all in the danger zone, especially holly.

  • Comment number 21.

    Hi all,

I do not think I'll be particularly shocked or surprised at tonights result but I have saw it coming for the past 2 weeks.

Also I would like to offer my condolances as well to the family friends and especially Robbie Savage in relation to the death of Gary Speed a top class footballer and a top class manager and representitive for Wales.

You will be sorely missed the world of football has lost a man so very special.

    RIP Gary

  • Comment number 22.

I have to admit that I didn't understand Aleshas reason for why Robbie & Ola left the floor 1st in the swingathon. Thinking about it though maybe her point was that because there were so many couples on the floor they might not have been able to see all the mistakes. If this is indeed the case they were always going to pull up the 1st mistake they see and with 2 of the better couples nearest the judges desk Robbie & Ola (in the centre of the dance floor) would have been the easiest ones to see.

I have to admit I didn't see a mistake from them but I'm not quite sure what I was looking for in that swingathon and with the camera panning to all the couples I might have missed their mistake.

  • Comment number 23.

I echo those sentiments on Gary Speed there Fergal. It was a shock to hear he had died in the 1st place at the age of only 42 but it was even more of a shock if (as initial findings suggest) his death was suicide in view of how he had turned the fortunes of the Welsh football team around and there wasn't any evidence (in the eyes of those that knew him very well) of any particular problem weighing him down

  • Comment number 24.

What I said about tonights result being of no shock or surprise it means that I didn't view the result on the internet it's just that I have seen the verdict coming for the last 2 weeks now.

And out of respect for Robbie and the shock news of Gary Speed I would like to make clear that if I criticise Robbie I criticise Robbie the celeb dancer not Robbie the person.

So with that some questions I would like answered.

1 Would Artem have cherographed a more seductive, loving and romantic Foxtrot taking a pot guess at the music choice Cheek To Cheek basing it on Hollywood glitz and glamour if he had been dancing with Kara.

2 If Robbie and Ola get voted through to next week will his dance routine for movie night be a Full Monty strip to You Can Leave Your Hat On by Tom Jones from The Full Monty.

Because as stripping is his forte that's all I can see this going oh and to compliment him I have to admit from a gay man's point of view his legs aren't to hot but he does have a nice pert bottom.

    Just my thoughts

  • Comment number 25.

Please don't have the Swing-a-thon again. It is unfair on celebrities like Anita and gives the judges too much chance to promote their favourites (Though, in general, they seemed more fair than normal last night). I don't enjoy the swing-a-thon and wish couples would concentrate on one dance rather than have to bother with two. I hope the Swing-a-thon result doesn't damage Anita's chances of staying in. Don't bring back the group Viennese Waltz either.

Memo to Alesha: if asked why a couple left the dance floor and you are not sure - lie. Say they weren't as good as the others, they were slowing down etc. Do not say you couldn't see all the couples and one couple had to leave so it might as well be them.

  • Comment number 26.

    Hi everyone,
what a fantastic s.c.d last night, and the swingathong, thought that Harry and Alinona would win that, I did not think it fair the mark that Alex and James got though, I thought the charlston that they did was fantastic, I think Robbie and Ola may go out tonight, I thought that Chelsee and Pasha were execellent, wish Chelsee would realise just how fantastic a dancer she realy is, loved Jason and Kristinas charlston too, but as I said I think Robbie will go out tonight, not many weeks to go untill the final, is the final at Blackpool does anyone know?, anyway have a great week everyone, looking farward to the results show, although I will record it as when the results show is on my dad phones me, always phones me on Sunday evenings, feel I cannot ask him to phone later as I want to watch the s.c.d results, so best that I record it,will watch the results later on tonight
    take care everyone
    christine

  • Comment number 27.

20 Alesha not articulating herself well...surely not!!! When will they admit she got the job only to compete on the glamour stakes with X Factor.

Sad news on Gary Speed RIP

  • Comment number 28.

I saw Something for the Weekend on Ö÷²¥´óÐã 2 this morning, and they showed Robbie's strip. Tim the presenter, found it very, very funny. The thing is, it's all so blokey.
In the past we've had rugby players who've worked hard at learning to dance, and it's been the dancing that's been their focus.

However, in Robbie we have someone who, rather than trying to come up to a dacning level, is trying to bring us all down to his level. And, to be quite honest, it's tedious and pointless.

Next year, if SCD survives this year's mess, can we please have back some sports players who want to learn to dance, not who bring it down to the lowest common denominator?

  • Comment number 29.

    Hi all,

My final thoughts before the results show this evening.

Chelsee and Pasha, Jason and Kristina, and Harry and Aliona are my top 3 standouts and also I believe they have the ability to make it all the way to Blackpool for the final.

Holly and Artem and Alex and James kind of a case of to little to late I can only see them lasting to the semi finals. And I still can't get over that rubbish music choice Artem picked for their Foxtrot

Anita aand Robin or Brendan the end of the road is in sight my prediction Anita goes this evening followed very closely the following week with the ppor woman's strippergram because if Robbie's trying to turn into the mark 2 version of Russell Grant it just ain't working and you know it gets bad when he has to get his trousers off to secure votes.

So my saves are for this evening.

    Guaranteed Saves

    Harry and Aliona
    Chelsee and Pasha
    Jason and Kristina

    Saves

    Alex and James
    Holly and Artem

    Bottom Two

    Anita and Brendan
    Robbie and Ola

I was disappointed with this week’s dances. They seemed to lack the wow factor except for Harry’s Quickstep. I was happy to see Harry get 3 10’s and especially the one from Len. Maybe he is going to mark Harry correctly now. I was happy with the judge’s original top four, but thought Alex was better than Anita who I thought was a bit untidy (did she make a mistake with her footwork?).

Having the swingathon is great because it means there are no ties. I think they shouldn’t have ties and if the Ö÷²¥´óÐã don’t wish to give the head judge the power to break ties it should have a swingathon type dance off every week when there are 7 or fewer couples.

I thought the majority of the training VT were about the training and not silly acting out. I hope they stop the acting out. Can we have reports on ITT on how much time each couple spends in training?

Some people on here are saying this year is not as good as last year. However for me I cared who stayed and went a lot earlier this year (at the beginning) than last year (mid way).

I think if Aliona can produce dances with a high level of the correct dance content Harry could win it this year.

  • Comment number 31.

Ola's reaction when she and Robbie were pulled out of the Swingathon was ... interesting. Last year she came across so well, but this year she seems to have changed completley. Hideous choreography, going along with Robbie's suggestions of stupid 'moves'. Why doesn't she just say, 'no. I'm the professional, and you're not going to do a strip' etc? Or is she under pressure from the Producer to go along with this tackiness?

  • Comment number 32.

Think now that Russell has gone Robbie knows he has not the ability of the others so is trying to fill the "Entertainment" slot. Unfortunately he is not as naturally funny as Russell or as endearing as Chris Hollins was with Ola in series 7.

RIP Gary Speed and my heart goes out to his family.

  • Comment number 33.

koolcazz Agree with your comments regarding Len - I didn't think Chelsee deserved Len's grumpy comments when she needed clarification of word 'elope' - I know his comments were supposed to be constructive but it would be better if they were delivered in a nicer manner especially to Chelsee who isn't the most confident of people. Even Bruce thought Len needed a 'grumpy pill'.

  • Comment number 34.

32 MrsArcanum agree with your views on Robbie sad to see he's obviously prepared to 'settle' for using any daft tactics to get through - I don't think trying to claim Russell's comedy slot will keep him in - didn't like his gestures in his Michael Jackson dance and hated the 'reveal' on Saturday - I'm surprised Ola let him include this sort of thing.

  • Comment number 35.

Do your next dance for Gary and make us all proud of you xxx

  • Comment number 36.

A much better show this week. The smaller studio suits the dancers and the dances much better. However please ask the camera man or the director to stop trying to be "arty". I would like to see shots of the whole couple not just their faces or feet. This is because at home it is the only way to see what the judges see. The time that the camera focuses on one part of the body means we at home can't see what else is going on.
Unfortunately the noisy and over enthusistic audience seem to have little critical awareness. Not everyone can be perfect!
Is it possible that during the "Two" weekly programmes the basics of the competing dances could be shown? This would inform the audience better so that we would then be able to see the rationale of the judges' scoring.

  • Comment number 37.

I agree with the comments about Alesha Dixon. She is a complete liability. Always saying 'this dance suits/doesnt suit you' or commenting how sexy the dance is etc etc. Get rid of her for SCD 2012 and either bring back Arlene or install Karen Brady as a judge.

  • Comment number 38.

    A few points;
    1) Yes,some people do " choose " a professional rather than a celebrity; I felt so sorry for poor Anton this year I supported him while he was still in. My favorite celebrity this year was Russell who entertained

and could dance too. I am now supporting Alex since she is my niece's favorite this year.
    2) Alesha's bad grammar makes me wince; if Arlene cannot or will not come back Karen Hardy would be an ideal choice; her Choreography Corner on " It Takes Two " proves that she know what she is talking about.
    3) too much vulgarity in some quarters; some of Robbie's past moves have been maybe not quite suitable for a family show and some of the things Len says; tone it down please.
I was sorry to see Anita go,I would have liked her to be able to do at least one more dance with Robin before she left.

  • Comment number 39.

Re my comment at 12.02pm. I of course meant Karen HARDY!! Dont think Karen Brady would be a very good judge.

I wanted to call the phone number but it did not exist. Is it not possible to call from abroad? Sorry for Harry and Aliona :-)

I being wating to call the phone numbers to save my favourites over the years , but I can't because the Ö÷²¥´óÐã do not open the lines outside the Uk. the Ö÷²¥´óÐã should open the phone lines to Uk's nearest neighbour Ireland. But I know that will never happen. We cann't even get the video links on this website.

karen HArdy- would love to see her as a judge.

  • Comment number 42.

I just went in to two of the videos and i could watch the two videos. Usually when I go onto the videos on the website they usually say Not available in your area because i from the Republic. When did they fix this for us and thank you. I like this that i can watch the videos, because I always felt that I was missing out on something.
