The nation votes for Lissan House

Restoration results from fifth programme revealed

Speaking from the Tower of London, Griff Rhys Jones last night (Tuesday 26 August) revealed the nation had chosen Lissan House in Cookstown, Northern Ireland to be the fifth building to go through to the final of the 主播大秀 TWO series Restoration.

Last Friday the fifth programme of the ten-part series featured Northern Ireland.

Griff called on viewers to choose between Lissan House and two other buildings - Herdmans Mill in Sion Mills and Belfast's Crescent Arts Centre.

Information on all three buildings is available through the website on .

Built in 1620, Lissan is an Irish country house unchanged for decades but now fading fast.

The current owner, Hazel Radclyffe Dolling, is the granddaughter of the eccentric artist known as The Barefoot Baronette.

She is last in the line of a 400-year occupancy of the Staple family from Lissan and, so determined is she to save Lissan for future generations, she has already transferred part of her home to a charitable trust.

The trust is integrally involved in the future of the house with plans to turn it into a centre for developing artists.

Last night's result means Lissan House will now become one of ten buildings to be featured in the live final at the Tower of London on Sunday 14 September.

A nationwide vote will decide which building should be given a new lease of life with money raised throughout the course of the series.

Kevin Baird, Heritage Lottery Fund Manager for Northern Ireland, said: "We are delighted that Lissan House has reached the final.

"This impressive building has been occupied by the generations of one family for almost 400 years and offers a wealth of history.

"With help from the voting public and the Heritage Lottery Fund's 拢3 million pledge, there is a chance now to restore and open up the house for all to share and enjoy."

Last night three more buildings, from the Midlands, were featured for viewers to choose between - Cromford Mill in Derbyshire; Bethesda Chapel in Stoke-on-Trent; and the Newman Brothers Coffin Works in Birmingham.

Friday's episode of Restoration (29 August) will reveal which of these will become the sixth building to go through to the final.

Lines are now open and viewers can vote by calling 0901 077 77 77.

Restoration is produced by Endemol UK Productions for 主播大秀 Scotland and currently transmits on 主播大秀 TWO on Tuesdays and Fridays at 9.00pm.

Restoration voting lines are open for three days for each programme from 2.00am on the day prior to transmission until midnight on the day after.
