Ö÷²¥´óÐã Children In Need 2007

Children in Need highlights

Junior Dragons' Den

Ìý

As part of the evening of entertainment for Ö÷²¥´óÐã Children In Need, the hit Ö÷²¥´óÐã Two programme Dragons' Den has been playing host to some unusually youthful entrepreneurs.

Ìý

Usually in the den, adult entrepreneurs attempt to persuade the five multi-millionaire Dragons – Duncan Bannatyne, Peter Jones, Deborah Meaden, Theo Paphitis and James Caan, to pledge a much needed cash investment in their business idea or invention.

Ìý

The Dragons are all prepared to back the best ideas but it's their own money they're spending, so the questions can be tough.

Ìý

In this special one-off edition of Junior Dragons' Den, eight aspiring young entrepreneurs ask the Dragons to back their own business ideas and inventions.

Ìý

The children range from nine to 14 years old and come from all across the UK.

Ìý

All of the children impress the Dragons with their energy and ingenuity. But entering the den can be a daunting task, even for adults, so can any of them manage to persuade the Dragons to give them the investment they need in order to turn their business dreams into reality?

Ìý

Their ideas include a gadget to stop DIY-ers banging their own fingers when they hammer in nails; a kit for schools to prevent children in the playground feeling lonely; a wooden house for hamsters and guinea pigs; a nightclub for 14 to 18-year-olds; a stylish over-the-shoulder utility belt to keep teenage essentials close at hand; and a prototype for a plastic tray with unique handles for carrying drinks away from vending machines.

Ìý

On meeting the children, Dragon Duncan Bannatyne said: "It was a great privilege to meet so many aspiring and inspiring young entrepreneurs during the filming of Junior Dragons' Den for Ö÷²¥´óÐã Children In Need. All the children showed great courage coming to stand in front of the four nasty, horrible Dragons and me."

The Spice Girls

Ìý

The Spice Girls will be donating all of the profits from their new single, Headlines (Friendship Never Ends), to the Ö÷²¥´óÐã Children In Need appeal.

Ìý

The single is one of two new songs that the Spice Girls have recorded for their Greatest Hits album, and the five-piece will perform the song especially on Appeal Night in a television link-up from LA.

Ìý

Fans of The Spice Girls will be able to get a sneak preview of the single's accompanying video, in a world premiere broadcast of Headlines (Friendship Never Ends) on Friday 2 November at 7.55pm on Ö÷²¥´óÐã One.

Ìý

On their new single, Mel Chisholm says: "It's really beautiful. Anybody who loved the old Spice Girls stuff is going to love this".

Ìý

Doctor Who

Ìý

David Tennant's 10th Doctor is set to meet Peter Davison's fifth Doctor in a special scene entitled Time Crash, which will air during the Ö÷²¥´óÐã Children Iin Need appeal night.

Ìý

Peter Davison says: "It is an honour for me to be able to make the connection between the fifth Doctor and the 10th Doctor.

Ìý

"However, now is not the time for soundbites. I can feel the hand of history on my shoulder, even if I can't do the buttons up!"

Ìý

Celebrity Scissorhands

Ìý

After the success of last year's series, which brought the Ö÷²¥´óÐã Children In Need fundraising message to a new generation of viewers, the Celebrity Scissorhands hair and beauty academy will open its doors once more.

Ìý

Amongst this year's celebrity trainees are: pop singer and mum-to-be, Javine; teen rocker Lil' Chris; Hollyoaks actress Carly Stenson (Steph in Hollyoaks); It girl Tamara Beckwith; British actor and star of Willow, Warwick Davis; 3 Non-Blondes' comedian Ninia Benjamin; DJ Brandon Block; actor and Neighbours star Ben Nicholas (Stingray in Neighbours); and Ö÷²¥´óÐã Radio 1 Breakfast Show's Aled Haydn Jones.

Ìý

Over three weeks, starting Sunday 28 October at 9pm on Ö÷²¥´óÐã Three, the celebrity apprentices will be working flat out, six-days-a-week, nine hours a day perfecting their techniques on willing members of the public.

Ìý

Clients will then be invited to make a donation to Ö÷²¥´óÐã Children In Need and pay whatever they think the haircut or treatment is worth.
