In for the long Haul

Is it only me that arrives back from a trip south, only to feel more exhausted than when I left?

The husband had a conference in the land of Angles (Eng) so I tailed on to visit friends and family in Edinburgh - and catch the last few days of the Fringe (more of that later).

Later in the week I popped in to see Mia and her staff and very well they were too. From there went on south again to pick up the husband from Manchester.

Travelling north from Edinburgh we had to leave early doors (4am) to get to Scrabster for the lunchtime boat, planning on traversing to Westray in the same day.

We arrived back on home soil a bit queasy from slight swells on both crossings and unpacked the car - although not too much excess baggage this time.

Our next stop was to the foster parents to pick up MC. As he had not returned from his daily foraging we stayed a while and caught up with happenings in our absence.

MC was seen at our previous house - obviously treking there each day to see if we were hiding there. Apparently on Sunday he even turned up at church - such a faithful wee soul.

Once MC arrived for his evening meal we all trundled down back to the house so we could sleep off the long haul home. MC, on the otherhand, wanted out to check his territory immediately and returning at various points of the night to munch away on meagre offerings, in earshot, so we knew he was there.

This morning he caught TWO rabbits, obviously one was for us - how kind!
However the husband and I are struggling to sit at our desks to work under piles of 'things to do' meanwhile trying to do 'what we should' and both still wanting to just snooze on the sofa instead.

So there it is. MC has loads of energy as he stayed at home and we're shattered from too much rushing for connections and ferries. Perhaps I should bid for relatives a bit further north for stopovers, or write to the Scottish Executive for cheap accommodation for islanders with more than one ferry to catch. They've been so helpful with the ADS and islander discounts on the ferries, I'm sure they could manage this as well.

Maybe I could even write to the Executive for relatives who live further north.

The depressing thing is I have another trip to Bristol at the end of the month, by which time I would have just about caught up with things from this trip.

Quick someone tie me to this island with an anchor.

Bigging it up down south

Well on my travels again. This time working in the office I connect to online from home.

MC is at home with The Husband until Thursday when he's (MC) off to the foster carers until our joint return on 6th Oct. The Husband will join me for the weekend, which will be loverly.

Next week sees my first English stand-up gig. The nerves haven't hit yet, but will do by the weekend - in time for The Husband to sooth my furrowed brow, but he still wants to maintain his record of not seeing me in action, so on the night I'll be on my own. Looking forward to it as I was so geedup by my trip to the Fringe in August.

So cue (stage left) the long awaited (perhaps not) report on my trip to the Edinburgh Fringe. My first observation is two days is no where enough time to work out what's on, where and fitting it all in.

I was keen to see some comedy and suss out a few venues for future performances, but I also wanted to experience some of the other events on offer.

Living outside of Edinburgh, and various family commitments, meant I couldn't stay for evening shows. This was a BIG mistake as most of the acts I wanted to catch up with were on after 7pm.

Still I made it to the Book Festival one afternoon but, unless tickets were booked in advance chances of getting in to see events on the day were slim. Still a few readings in the bookshop brought a few authors into public view. Still, The Mother managed to see PD James, which she loved and made it more worthwhile.

Overall worth a longer visit next year - and perhaps this time I'll make it on stage in some form or another. Perhaps we could do a stage show of the Fank or an Island Blogging drama. Lets gets our collective brains (2lbs) in action.

Will try to post any exciting events over the next week or so until I return.
