The
nation votes for Wentworth
Restoration
results from seventh programme revealed
Speaking
from the Tower of London, Griff Rhys Jones tonight (Friday) revealed
the nation had chosen The Sham Castle and Glasshouse at Wentworth
Castle in Stainsborough, near Barnsley, to be the eighth building
to go through to the final of the 主播大秀 TWO series Restoration.
The
pair of buildings won 45% of the votes from viewers.
Last
Tuesday (2 September) the eighth programme of the ten-part series
featured Yorkshire and the North East of England.
Griff
called on viewers to choose between The Sham Castle and Glasshouse
at Wentworth Castle and two other buildings - Ravensworth Castle
in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear and Haperly POW Camp in County Durham.

The
Sham Castle and Glasshouse are located in the grounds of Wentworth
Castle - a trophy home built for decadence and frivolity.
The
grounds are dotted with fantastic follies and one of them is South
Yorkshire's most-at-risk building - a glasshouse.
It
is a rare survivor and the epitome of 19th century technology, with
a state-of-the-art irrigation system, and a lasting reminder of
elegant, aristocratic living.
The
Sham Castle was built around 1727-30 as a gothic folly.
Today's result means The Sham Castle and Glasshouse become one of
ten buildings to be featured in the live final at the Tower of London
on Sunday 14 September.
Here
a nationwide vote will decide which building should be given a new
lease of life with money raised throughout the course of the series.
Ray
Taylor, Heritage Lottery Fund Manager for Yorkshire & the Humber,
said: "The restoration of the Sham Castle and Glasshouse at
Wentworth Castle would be brilliant.
"It
encapsulates one of the Heritage Lottery Fund's main aims which
is to open up our heritage for everyone to enjoy.
"We're
pledging 拢3 million to The Restoration Fund to go towards
restoring the winning building.
"It's
down to the public now to vote for which one wins."
Tonight
(Friday 5 September) three more buildings, all from Wales, were
featured for viewers to choose between
- Llanelly House in Llanelli; Amlwch Port and Parys Mountain in
Anglesey; and Faenol Old Hall in Gwynedd.
Next
Tuesday's episode of Restoration (9 September) will reveal which
of these will become the ninth building to go through to the final.

is produced by Endemol UK Productions for 主播大秀 Scotland and currently
transmits on 主播大秀 TWO on Tuesdays and Fridays at 9.00pm.
Restoration
voting lines are open for three days for each programme from 2.00am
on the day prior to transmission until midnight on the day after.

previous shows will not be carried forward.

is to help ensure that the competition is as fair as possible to
each of the ten finalists.
