I'm searching for a Cairn Terrier and having no luck.

Orkney: perfect place for a Cairn Terrier with all this open space! (And beeches!)

Erlend has Zeb the Farm Dog to trot around with him all day and I'm hankering for a smaller pooch to accompany me - and I loooooove Cairn Terriers. I contacted the Cairn Terrier Rescue and told them we have 300 acres and a house and would love to welcome a well-behaved Cairn... but never heard from them. I've contacted a lot of animal rescues here in Britain and never hear back from them. It's odd. Maybe they cease to exist but their website is still running? I prefer rescue rather then purchase because at least I'm giving an "unwanted" animal a home! Zeb was adopted and so were ten of our fourteen cats! (Only two are inside-outside cats. The rest are wild barn kitties who skulk about the farm keeping the rats and rabbits away.)

My quest for a Cairn shall continue...

Could you not just make do with a wee dug of indeterminate parentage...it might widen the options a bit. Naturally I admire your championing of felines immensely! The organisations maybe didn't reply because you are not on the mainland of Britain: some rescue groups won't let animals go offshore because they like to be able to visit for check-ups. (but it was rather rude not to repIy) I vaguely remember something about donkeys not being allowed to be re-homed here.

FC, are you a donkey-owner manqu茅? I wouldn't have thought that would have been your cup of tea at all. Moo, good luck with the dog search, but I agree with FC, would not any smallish dog do just as well? Lots of them have terrier blood in them anyway. I understand that they are prone to disappearing down holes etc though...

You're so right Jill, I've enough to do putting up with the human variety!

I really would love a Cairn Terrier! Call me a dog snob hahaha but I've always wanted a Cairn. I've hopefully done my bit giving a home to a wide variety of mixed breed critters. I'm hoping it's not too snooty of me to desire a Cairn as well. I just love them! Not too small, not too big...cute as anything and sooooo Wizard of Oz haha! (I did try to find a small dog - for many months I tried and never received any replies from the rescue organizations. While on our honeymoon we stopped at every SSPCA shelter we could find and all they seemed to have were COLLIES. Endless collies. There was one small dog but she was already claimed oy! So yes, I have tried to find a mixed mutt of small stature and instead we found huge ol' Zeb hehe! Now I'm on the hunt for a Cairn.)

What's wrong with Collies then moo moo? They're better than any Cairn Terror ( although I don't know what a Cairn terror is) and very obedient, well Getoffthe is, so stop hankering after them there Cairns Gal and get a Collie, see y'all, wouldn't wanna be y'all. ( Did ye see wot I did there Moo moo? Well didya? Just trying to make you feel at home)

Off shore view from Tiree has got the right specimen for you, Moo. The price is right too, so long as you avoid the local Sheikh who is fixated on shekels collecting.

Collies are grand but not here with 107 sheep of our own + several farms with sheep surrounding us. A collie would not make us a good pet. However, we are looking for a working collie!! I still want me wee pooch though hehe! A non farm dog as in, won't come into the house stinking of poo and turning my nice clean kitchen floor BROON in a matter of seconds. Zeb, I love ya, but you STINK and yer FILTHY. He's half collie by the way and he loooooves to bite sheep. He says they taste good...

Michelle Therese from Collies are nice...but not here

Ok, no problem, I was just saying, that's all, and Getoffthe doesn't make the floor BROON, or she'd get a swift *. It's called training.

Rolled up newspaper. Always works (alongside the praise and stuff) And quite satisfying to a cat purrondering on such activities...
