#11 the Madeleine Peyroux song only came about because of this theme - can't even remember how I got to it, but I'd heard Leonard Cohen singing himself on Saturday on the radio and as everyone knows I'm not a fan, but there was something about the song I really liked - then found this version and liked it much better!

There's a song hovering round my head that my dad used to play on the piano, but for the life of me can't remember what it was. Pure dae'in ma nut in.

Jazz music is more popular than ever if the Grammies are anything to go by.In the same year Herbie Hancock's sublime "River:The Joni Letters won two including best album and the brilliantly talented bassist and singer Esperanza Spalding won best newcomer over Justin Beiber(good taste prevailed for once) and Kurt Elling is being hailed as one of the all time greats(he is!)So it would be cool to hear what all the fuss is about these new kids on the Jazz Block.Mind you you cant have a a jazz night without the King of Cool ,Miles Davis .

Agreed, was a really good mix, and surprisingly hunners of folk don't realise how eclectic jazz is, there is some cool for everyone.

Couple o noticable absences but we're always gonnae get that in a 2 hour show.

#75 You're right Al - I was a bit miffed Ella didn't get a play, but then again, most of what was played was hopefully enough to encourage folk to rethink jazz. Or, if not, at least give it a chance to be reconsidered.
I asked one of my colleagues, whose musical taste I rate highly, what he thought of jazz. He was totally dismissive. Came up with the scatting/ bibbly-bop issues that seem to dog a lot of folks' understanding of what is quite a broad spectrum of music. I suspect he's in denial. And if he's not, what does it matter? There's room for all sorts on GIO.

Was a wee bit miffed(understatement) with the whole country thing last night cos all the stuff I like was totally dismissed. I grew up wi all the old country standards and as a result, as any mewso likes to do, I was hoping for lot's of the new guys and gals, yee - haaa, to get noticed. Didny even play their own poster boy for the show.

Tonight, however, the young talent was recognised ?
