Briony's Brilliant Bread Hacks

Read below for Briony's top tips on making the most out of an everyday staple!

Crumpet Churros (Serves 4)

Ingredients:

  • 4 crumpets
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tbsp golden caster sugar
  • 2 tsp cinnamon

Method:

  1. Slice the crumpets into thin fingers.
  2. Place in a bowl, drizzle over the melted butter and stir to coat the crumpets.
  3. Mix the sugar and cinnamon together in a separate bowl, and then sprinkle on your crumpet fingers.
  4. Mix everything together then place in the air fryer for 5-6 minutes on 180C.
  5. Add extra sugar and cinnamon to taste

For the Chocolate Dipping Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 200ml milk
  • 1.5 tbsp golden caster sugar
  • 1 heaped tsp cocoa powder
  • 1 heaped tsp plain flour
  • Dash of salt

Method:

  1. To make the sauce, whisk all the ingredients in a pan and heat until thickening.
  2. Dip your churros crumpets into your chocolate sauce.

Bagel Bites

Ingredients:

  • 1 bagel
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp fajita seasoning

Method:

  1. Slice your bagel from the centre to the edge into ½ cm rounds and place in a bowl.
  2. Drizzle over the olive oil, toss to cover the bagel pieces.
  3. Sprinkle over the fajita seasoning, mix well then place in the air fryer for 3 minutes on 190C until crispy.

Extra Tips:

  • To avoid sliced bread sticking together in the freezer, place slices on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, allow to freeze, and then place frozen slices back in original packaging.
  • For the weird and wonderful - add a stick of celery into your bread packaging! The water held by the celery should help keep your bread fresh for up to 3 weeks.
  • To revive a stale loaf of bread, hold the un-sliced loaf under the tap to wet the exterior, before placing in the oven at 180C for 10-15 minutes.
