Say hello to Herrick, the smiling, charming and deeply disturbing leader of the vampire underworld.Ìý He might seem like a friendly copper, but don't be fooled... underneath lies a manipulative killer who wants Mitchell back by his side to kill again.Ìý

Ìý

Not that you'd know that from his grin...

I like the concept of a villain who is seemingly normal, rather than an evil cackling maniac. The more subtle the better, as I would like an exploration of the banality of evil.

I'd love for Herrick to be so persuasive that he has the audience thinking "he does have a point".

Totally agree with you darylmillar, I find Herrick far more disturbing because he is so normal looking and acting. wasn't the premise of the story that vampires are meant to have successfully managed to infiltrate every aspect of society. Herrik scares the hell out of me, and that's a good thing.
I think Jason Watkins is doing a great job.

Very impressed by the character already, after only 2 episodes. Bit of a nasty badger. His lackey is amusing too.
Can only get better as we move through the episodes.

Yes, the subtlety makes it way more effective. And I loved the bit in the canteen, where he was being polite to the girl serving! Brilliantly written, of course, but I really think the casting is perfect. So odd as well because I think I have seen him in Confetti, playing a rather camp wedding planner, and this is so different but he does it so brilliantly. I am using the word brilliantly a lot. Must be becasue the show is brilliant :-)

Oh yh that guy is definitely evil! Can't wait to see what he's going to do next.

He doesnt exactly look like a vampire does he? Cant decide if that works or not?? Hes blonde hes not skinny hes not pale everything opposite of what a vampire is "supposed to be" (although the old old vampires werent meant to be skinny or pale but "modern" vampires if you like) mitchell looks like a typical vampire seth has just an evil about him but herrick...cant make my mind up although he is great as a character - brilliantly written they all are. Want to hear more of his back story before the series is out though :-) .........

I still think the choice of actor is brilliant. True, he is not very 'gothic' looking but he is a brilliant actor.

  • Comment number 8.

Why should a vampire be gothic looking? surely one of the things that makes Herrick such an effective character is the fact that he blends so well into normal society

  • Comment number 9.

I wasnt saying it was a bad thing dont worry lol just that hes very different from mitchell, lauren and seth in his appearance just different - not bad just different lol said i couldn decide whether or not i thought it worked but then i suppoose none of them look very well...dead lol do they not a critisism just a wonderin :-)

  • Comment number 10.

sorry eagle_eyes i kinda missunderstood your point

  • Comment number 11.

Thats ok i waflle too much :-S is it worryig that im beginning to agree with Herrick a bit though lol if i am though does Mithell really have a hope in hells chance?

  • Comment number 12.

I dont think its worrying you agreeing with Herrick think about it if everyone was a vampire then there would be no death which is surely a good thing

  • Comment number 13.

Yes but there'd be no birth either - vampires cant breed so that'd be awful - no kids :-( no new people just the same people the same age forever...spooky lol

  • Comment number 14.

Damn you're right I hadn't thought that through

  • Comment number 15.

Jason Watkins reprising his prat policeman role from Lark Rise to Candleton, except this time it's modern and gritty and he's a vampire...

    Absolutely earth shattering!
