Episode five had many surprises, but nothing surprised us more than the return of Herrick.
The last time we saw him he was being torn into little tiny pieces by a werewolf but, thanks to the wonder of flashbacks, we got a second chance to view him and Mitchell up to their murderous tricks in the 1960s.
We caught up with living legend Jason Watkins on set to discuss how it felt reprising this much-loved role...

I agree with eagle in last post - this ep improves with watching - so much in it - maybe too dense - some of the developments could have taken more room - but still very tense and engaging.
And Im noticing more - the great visuals and lighting - credit to the director (with his lovely accent!)

Great to see Herrick back...that hair! Jason was only just around in the 60s...apparently, green crimplene was acceptable to wear (for women!) and I've seen some of my ma's knitting patterns...you had to see them to believe them...the costumes on BH are far superior..
Great to see Jason...glad he enjoyed it! How cheeky of Aidan to remind him of his, er, maturity...there's a lot to be said for it...and it won't be long before he's staring 40 in the face..!

Switching tack...I see that 'young' Kemp makes an appearance in eps 6...no doubt we're going to find out what the 'shocking' event was that sent Kemp over the edge..I'm wondering if this was a vampire attack on someone he loved..maybe a family member...and I'm wondering if the killer was Mitchell....there has to be some reason that Kemp has been searching for Mitchell and all for a very long time....just a thought.

And there are real inconsistencies in Mitchell's characterisation, too, especially in his interactions with women. In series 1 he was a charmer, a proper ladies' man - just look at the way he seduced Becca in episode 1 and the way he flirted with Nina before inviting her over to dinner in George's name.
But in series 2, he's been tongue-tied and fumbling around Lucy for no good reason, which I would seriously call inconsistent characterisation. I don't believe that it was love at first sight or some such rubbish.
Josie, too - in series 1, she had been presented as just another old lover whom Mitchell had fond memories of. There was *nothing* to indicate that she was the one who had reawakened his conscience, or that she was the only woman in the past forty years who had understood him. That came out of nowhere and frankly ill fits with the series 1 episodes.

I've spent too much time thinking about this myself, and! I have come to the conclusion that vampires do not age, but their bodies can and do change. Back in S1Ep4, the "Mitchell through the ages" sequence showed us that his hair has been various lengths over the years and he used to have a moustache, too!
Also, AT has put on some muscle since series 1 (although I think he looked better when he was more slender), and I loved that it was acknowledged in ep2 when Annie says, "Oh Mitchell, you've been working out!" ;) So vampires can increase their muscle mass, too.
Clearly these are important things that need to be discussed :D

Someone earlier mentioned that Josie would recognize Herrick in season one and I hadn't thought of that! If it had really gone the way it did in season 2 then older Josie wouldn't have gone anywhere NEAR Herrick. But people make mistakes, I know from writing in the Nano Wrimo challenge I wrote one scene where the front door had been broken down and it wasn't until near the end of the month I realised in the next scene there was someone knocking on the door... in the same day.... how can they knock on a door that has just been broken down? pmsl! So it's easy to forget little details plus I think there are other writers involved, aren't there so it's always gonna be hard. I still think the 60s josie scenes are excellent and better than just meeting in a bar anyway so in my mind it was season 1 that got it wrong not season 2!! As for Mitchells clothes well my hubby is always in something different... one min he's wearing his black shirt and then the next min he's in something different but claims "it's not dirty" so puts it back in his wardrobe then the next min he's back in the black shirt... so it might just be a man thing!

If Bexter2001 thinks that the writing on S2 was rushed, what will not-that-far-away S3 be like? BH Prod: please don't just chuck everyone and everything at it!!
But, hey, it is only a TV prog and I'm becoming far too absorbed in Planet BH!

If she is a vampire you have to work out how long if digital or color photo.
Also the Mitchell entering the homes last week. Josie lived in the same building as the girls and you can't enter buildings without invite but once you do free range the pedophile could have lived in a flat sane rules?
this has been my logic gap filled for the day I think.

Something odd about Molly...that long appraising look she gave George outside the school...like she knew something about him...and she does look a bit like Hattie...
Kinda getting used to the odd little discrepancies...still no idea why the Josie/Mitchell meeting storyline was changed though...
Music is still fab...keep noticing bits I've never clocked before...that's why I keep having to see episode 5, of course...no other reason...
BH PROD: Any chance of a few clips from future episodes to cheer us up this dismal day, please? We could do with something to ponder over and a bit more action from 6, 7 or 8 would do a treat....unless its going to be so good you're spoiled for choice for clips and have decided against it! xxx

dont read it if you dont want spoilers - I can never resist once I know it's there - but it must detract from the pleasure/tension of watching it unfold

maybe it's just before they head off for Wales?! but the dialogue doesnt seem part of the current story line (Mitchell telling Annie off about staying in the house watching TV?). His look of terror would also be new - we've seen worried plus dangerous/masterful and now distraught/desperate - but not terrified?
And we still havent seen Mitchell's fangs this series like in trailer - and only one glimpse of his black eyes.

Am missing the Mitchell fangs for sure! This is why we need more clips....am thinking that he flashes 'em in the next 3 episodes though...
Is the programme trailer we had just a trailer designed for that, or actually something from the episodes we've not yet seen, do you think? Wasn't sure if it was just a trailer-type advert for S2...

But would still like to see not just Mitchell's fangs but George's sort-of fangs too?
It's Friday - which means ....

Mitchell's fangs?..yes please!..think you're right Anglo...they'll make an appearance in eps 7 at least I'm sure as i think that epsisode will show a blood-curdling Mitchell!
Yes Molly is an odd child but then maybe she's just fed up of mum having boyfriends and just wants her dad back?..she is only 7 after all. Don't think she's Hattie.
It's Kemp who is facinating me at the mo and pondeing on all sort of scenarios for his past and the 'shocking experience' referred to by Lloydy boy...we'll find that out on Sunday.
Cor..you're brave celticgrace: I don't want to look as far ahead as the lsat episode ...a nice clip or two for tasty taster on eps 6 would be enough for me....!
