I think it is a shame that some of this was not put in, it is nice to have a bit more background on the characters, to help to understand their motives etc. A shame that the budget cannot always stretch to show us more & of course, this is all the more reason to call for longer episodes!

Tully's almost made me cry. I could see him saying those words, cuddling Amy, a sad look in his eyes and the strenght and responsability he takes on George.

It' s such a pity you haven't been able to put this, although I must admit even Ivan&Daisy'sfashback was very mving, very poetic, as was everything relating to Ivan.

Thank you for sharing this Mr Toby..maybe you could put some hints to this in series 3..I loved Tully.

Oooh lovely idea that it counts down through the moons we have seen and shows us what's happening at the facility while we've been watching series 1. I understand how Lucy got involved now if she saw what a pitiful character Craig was. Poor Craig and Amy, there story is so sad. Their families caged them up. And Tully was so kind to her. Liked the 'I'll tell you the day after tomorrow' line. that's the Tully we know and love.
interesting this idea of 'did she/he/you actually use that word' runs through the whole script. Mitchell and 'dangerous' in the pilot, Kemp and 'friends' in the last episode. 'vampire' in this script.
this is really interesting, thanks BHP for showing it to us. I can imagine ow this would have looked on screen and it's really added to the story for me.

need to read again but it was interesting to see more of the link back to Tully - I found him really creepy but it would have been good to have him back - another full circle.

It showed Lucy in a much more sinister light - her complicity in the deaths - she says it more than once in the final version esp ep8 - but this really shows how guilty she is. Which oddly makes Mitchell's ready forgiveness harder to take - but that's probably a sign of our investment in his character that we can more easily forgive his sins!

Not clear why it was so expensive? except just a lot more settings to put together? and more actors? I was expecting something very special effects from the intro - but I guess another transformation scene is costly.
Has a lot more double flashbacks? ie includes lots of other scenes from the series.
The final scene with Ivan and Daisy was so good - would have been a shame to lose that - but this has some lovely stuff too. Interesting in light of blog discussion on programe length - dont want to start that again - it got a bit tetchy lol.. - but would be interested in Toby's views? He seems to want more room - but is it just budget? would it lose tension?

7. i agree celticgrace, although I thought it did show why Lucy got involved it also showed how willing she was to keep going even though it was killing people. More 'mad scientist' than we thought originally. She really was an unforgivable character wasn't she? Bless Mitchell for trying. But, like he said, she had a choice.
I just watched the pilot again and noticed that 'Herrick' (so glad they re cast him BTW, the other guy was good and all but Jason Watkins gives the character real charisma and charm) made the comment that they were 'all made by the lamb', so Mitchell is almost quoting herrick in his talk with Lucy at the facility.

this extra look at Kemp and Lucy's relationship doesnt answer one thing that's been bugging me - why add in the apparently pervy stuff? - eg Kemp drooling over a mug with Lucy's name on it? - if it did mean what it looked like?

Cant see what it added - we already had lots of motivation for Kemp in his religion and family tragedy? And it confused for me the much more interesting drive when he went from watching Mitchell and Lucy straight to pushing Annie through the door... ie that he wanted Mitchell to lose something he loved and finally recognised their friendship was real?

Is Toby still taking more questions lol? here's hoping ...

10, I know what you mean about Kemp and Lucy but I thought it was the fact that Mitchell said 'we had sex' and then said ;go'd a bit of a bd' which made Kemp Push Annie through the door bc Mitchell had sullied the things Kemp held dear; Lucy and god.
I also wondered if the Kemp lipstick mug thing and the Lloyd tissue thing were to give a grimy, less religious element to their operation? it wasn't all zealous and noble?

That script would have been a fantastic beinginning! Such a shame you could't afford to do it!

Perhaps it could be included somewhere in S3 E1?

Thanks for this, Toby and BHP. It's tied up a few loose ends and answered some of the questions the bloggers have been examining since Sunday.

I was away over the weekend and am still - three days later - catching up on the mighty ocean of blog which the last episode has generated.

Now I must wait patiently until the autumn and series 3 for other loose ends and cliffhangers to be revealed. Patiently? Maybe not.

12 - agree that argument and Kemps's reaction were terrifically complex! I was thinking about what Kemp said to Mitchell in the corridor - about him now feeling what it was to lose someone? and the many references in the ep to the "friendship" between the 3 - Kemp's comtemptuous dismissals of those bonds chimed beautifully with the various moments of friendship between the 3/4, which culminated in them saving each other.
I thought he already knew about Lucy having sex with Mitchell? Didnt she confess all? She was quite dismissive of that in the room - just "hurt his feelings"?
And not sure Kemp would have been surprised at a vampire speaking ill of his deity!

16. I don't think Kemp did know about the sex. Lucy confessed to being too weak to kill Michell that's all (if I remember correctly)

16 no i didn't think it was a revelation to him (pardon the pun) the sex or the blasphemy i think it was HEARING Mitchell say it. and how Lucy was so dismissive of it, it told Kemp that she wasn't just seduced, she didn't care. A cold scientist who had to get to her subject more than a fallen woman.

BHP thank you! Toby - ur amazing! I totally loved it and would have love, loved, loved to have seen it!! The whole Tully thing - amazing... and it was great to know how he come about to know it all, and the fact he was stil trying to protect George even before writing that message on the wall. I also really enjoyed seeing the flashbacks of scenes from last series, so we could put a time and date to it and it merged all the characters together. Poor Amy and Craig... aww bless them... it was so nice to have a fuller back story about all of it I think. I think it was an important bit to read when Kemnp first found out about werewolves, to read how repulsed he was... Have to admit, even though it wasn't acted or anything, in my minds eye, I could really see it playing out....

Kemp - in another of his dismissals of the M/G/A "friendship" - (in the Trevor's last scene!) does refer to Mitchell having probably "seduced" George as well - something like that?

18 - another take I hadnt thought of crow! Kemp thinking she was cold and going into a rage!

but was she really cold?? Lucy talking to George blatantly admits to using Mitchell - pretty cold that - but then a moment later to loving him? I was left in the end of the ep not sure if she loved him or not - (her final "Mitchell" was touching) - which is fine - life is complex and untidy lol ..

that final scene in the corridor between Mitchell and Kemp was certainly riveting, full of emotions - Mitchell absolutely ferocious and crazed - and Kemp like a big insect -his face looming - not afraid of the vampire at all - his face and movements made me think of the creature in Alien! - fantastic acting from both of them.

25 - agree re the complexity! dont often get that in drama on TV - too often simplistic. I was thinking she started by seeing him as an evil monster and was just going to use him - but was then surprised by love? she just fell for him without meaning to.. and who wouldnt?

I love reading this sort of thing, it's very insightful to how the creative minds are working on BH, and also explains little bits that we otherwise pieced together ourselves. What it did explain in particular was how Tully knew none of the other werewolves survived.

My questions though, if I can ask them...
What's happened to Lloyd? and what was that thing about Kemp with Lucy's brush and mug? Did he kill her in the end because she went hunting for Mitchell and he just flipped because he had a thing for her? And finally, Lucy didn't go through the door.... does that mean she's going to be in series 3 as a ghost? (although I predict the answer to that will be "wait and see!").

29 - now, i know what these blogs are like - im just happy u remembered to let me know where it was!! and i agree, i think she was determined to win over hi trust, spend time with him and get him to open up, but she forgot that she is only human and when u forge relationships like that, sometimes boundaries get blurred. i dont think it was true love, but she definitely felt something for him......

shows how hard it is for Mitchell to choose to be moral - he neednt fear Hell? he just wants to live a moral life for its own sake? a real Humanist! So "are you ready to meet your maker" for him - is facing himself - and what he has done??

Hi guys! I know I said i wouldn't be there today, but it turns out I don't have work to do for the moment so I decided to join the discussion here.

First, CROW I'm glad you appreciated Vermillion Lies' music! makes me happy! =) [I'm re-writing this in case you didn't happen to read it in the last blog]

The Kemp/Lucy/Mitchell thing. - I think she didn't tell him everything. When he speaks of Mitchell "seducing" George as well, it seems to me like he is talking about the Devil's corrupting power, the Tempter, the Deceiver. And I think it upset him when he heard about them having had sex (boy his face was terrifying at that point!)because it meant Mitchell aka Satan (or one of his minions - Demon living in a dead body, wearing it as clothes..) took not only Lucy from him, but tempting her, he took her from the right path and from God.
Add to this Mitchell disrespectful remark about God and we're done. His blasphemy had took too much from him, from Kemp's point of view, I mean.
And therefore the revenge by taking away the people he loved from Mitchell, it always seemed to me like a very personal thing between Kemp and Mitchell, everything done to revenge a personal loss. As Paul Ryhs said, "very minute and pathetic".

I wish we had got to see Tully, I also love the "I'll tell you the day after tomorrow" bit. He knows that he will probably not get out of there and he makes them pay for it. Good old Tully, he really learnt form meeting George.

I also liked seeing all the full moons again (I had a little count back on here the other night) Interesting how CenSSA were up to all this while we were still seeing off Herrick, though we knew that anyway.

Shame this wasn't at least filmed and left for the DVD but I suppose it made the Tully note more unexpected and I did love the Daisy and Ivan scene.

And this is why I love behind the scenes. I was timing it in my head, and it would have been reeeeeeeeeeeeally long, but I am so glad I got to read it. Everything tying together in neat little knots. Like a dreamcatcher - you start with a load of strings, and they tie together and tie together, always getting closer to the centre. :)

7. Agree that this script shows Lucy in a more sinister light. From the series, I think we were given the impression that she was perhaps led on by Kemp. However, Lucy has little remorse for having killed another being (I won't say human, because that's not what she believes). She quickly goes from being shocked at the initial death of poor Craig, to contemplating how to get the experiment right on the next werewolf. Given the age of the first werewolf to be experimented on, "maybe only 17", this seems to make her an even more sinister character!
& didn't Mrs Ford ever wonder what happened to her son?

Reading that really changed my view of Kemp...I had it in mind that he was completely focused on the Vampires cos of his family, and the werewolves were almost a side line for CENSSA. I know Lucy tells Mitchell that the Vampire massacre was just a distraction (almost makes it worst for Mitchell that killing Ivan and the others was an unimportant diversion) but this script implies it was really all about the werewolves and that even Lucy hooking up with Mitchell was just to get at George. Strange to think the whole central theme of the 'human threat' for the series can change focus based on a few scenes....

55. we're drawn to the Shiny like Moths to the flame. There would be a lot of Shiny there, sequined dresses, pearls, diamonds emeralds.. art nouveau furniture and jewels..

seems for them the werewolves are central because they think they can be cured - so theyre on a mission. But vampires have no souls anymore so they are just to be exterminated.

But Lucy found that Mitchell had a soul after all - that threw her universe!

59 Celtic that is a very good way to describe it - she found out Mitchell has a soul and wasnt expecting that!

Perhaps the 'wearing someones else clothes' was implying she thought the original person truly dies and their soul moves on and the body is then 'animated' by a demon to make the vampire. But demons don't do love, friendship, compassion let alone forgiveness so Mitchell just would not fit into her neat little box. No wonder she was both so fascinated by, and also frightened of, him!

Ooooh that gave me chills reading that! It's great we get to see these things, even though they eventually got cut from the episodes!

Thankyou soooo much for sharing this! Fantastic! It explains a lot. It's a shame it didn't actually get made. I'd have loved to have seen it in a longer episode (they always ended too quickly for me!). However, I've been able to picture it all in my head anyway!

Thanks for the new post! It's great to actually "know" what Tully was up to etc. I don't think many producers would release this sort of thing, which is why love BH! Still don't know Lucy's backstory though.

Lucy did seem a lot more sinister here and Kemp actually seemed more shocked by it all (would have thought vice versa).

65. You know Moon, regarding the whole soul thing. I've been thinking about it and I came to the conclusion that we don't know if they have one. They have feelings, they feel love and hate and rage and so on.. but do they have a soul. In this mythology we know vampires are created by other vampires but we are not given the "a demon possess the body and the soul goes to hell" thing. well not explicitly.
Lucy and Kemp abviously see it this way, but is it really so?

I'm really glad that Toby released this as it has answered quite a few questions for me...noteably.....who was it who told Kemp about a vampire, ghost and werewolf living together: I never thought it was Owen...but it never occurred to me that it was Tully. I can only assume that Tully thought at that point that it would benefit George to be found by Kemp....I hope it was that and not retaliation for George abandoning him as a friend.

It also gives us info on all 4 werewolves killed in the facility...made me feel even more sorry for Tully seeing how he had ended up...living rough. Poor Craig Ford..his mother sounded more of a nightmare than any transformation into a wolf!

And yes...agree with those who say that this additional info doesn't put Lucy in a good light....she somehow got over her horror extremely quickly and the script suggests she moved to a cold, clinical 'science project' regarding the werewolves.

Whilst I think this draft opening to eps 7 is fascinating...particularly the links from a 'new scene' to a scene previously viewed.... I'm not sure this would have worked well as an opening sequence. Not only would it have been too long, some of it would have been unnecessary. The one link I don't get is the link to Gilbert..how does that connect to anything else in this draft or was Toby struggling here to make something relevant to Annie?

As it turned out I think Toby's substituted prequel with Daisy and Ivan was the right one to go with , relevant and useful to give us some insight into Daisy and how a young woman came motivated to leave her baby behind for a 'different' life.

Amy being Tully's lover - yeah, it was random, to me it suggested they'd been in the facility together for a good while. It's weird seeing Tully this way too, although he was really lonely when we last saw him.

Please at least think about it...shouldn't be too expensive to make cos it's only one hour...perhaps we could collectively think up a storyline for you!xx

I suppose I just have to accept that Lucy was a bad person, I must admit I was warming to her when she seemed so reluctant to agree to the explosion and kept asking after Mitchell....but it really does seem the real Lucy was the heartless scientist that just saw people as tools for her research, one almost wonders if the confession to Mitchell at the end of the way the dead werewolves haunted her was just more manipulation....

Hi Anglo! Excellent idea about an hour long Mitchell/Josie episode...I think I suggested a while ago, a Mitchell/Josie flashback each episode. I'd like to see Mitchell in a variety of styles & colours of underpants! lol What do you think to that??
Or, even better, how about a Mitchell/Josie spin-off mini series? Obviously Herrick would feature heavily too!

72 - In the last episode of S1 Owen tells Kemp about Annie George and Mitchell. But does make sense that Tully said about them to him previously with Kemp's 'We found them' comment. Loved that she got such a great revenge on the evil so and so that he wanted to stayin the mental institution forever for his own protection from them! Brilliant!

Liz: (94) Greg Chillin's (what a fabulous name...is it real?) portrayal of Owen was astonishing...what a hell of an actor...the Ö÷²¥´óÐã really got the best for Being Human despite being on such a tight budget...in fact, it couldn't have been better...and more successful either...and they gave these guys a real leg up the career ladder, so I hope they're all in work for a very long time...they deserve it.
