Transferring from London to take up the new post in Brinford, Max will be an enigma to his new colleagues.

Rumours will circulate about his banishment from London for punching his Chief Super. Others believe he was caught in bed with the chief’s wife.

Max will do little to contradict these stories – he has always enjoyed projecting an air of mystery; as a child he claimed to be the illegitimate son of Errol Flynn.

He was brought up by his maternal grandmother when his actress mother abandoned him to go on tour. His fascination with detective work started early, the product of a lonely childhood, escaping into Humphrey Bogart movies, and pulp fiction crime stories.
