Cal Mac News

Plans to put Caledonian MacBrayne ferry routes out to tender have won the backing of the Scottish Parliament. In a lengthy Holyrood debate, Transport Minister Tavish Scott argued that it was the only way to satisfy European competition rules.
Assurances were made that the pay, conditions and pension arrangements for the workforce would be guaranteed.
The promises proved enough to persuade Labour backbenchers, who had earlier helped defeat the move last year.

Will this be causing ructions on the islands?

Won't make a blind bit of difference on Arran as Cal Mac own the piers and refuse landing rights to other ferry operators at the moment so I'm sure everything will just stay as over priced as now. The main problem will be when the Cal Mac staff go on strike, but that's nothing new either as they always threaten strike action or go on strike at Christmas or over major holidays.
