Blog Blog - WindBag

Blog Blog has stood apart from the wimdfarm debate thus far - as is only proper for the objective arbiter that we are (that's the Royal Wee).

Three points have come to us in reading the links and stuff everyone's been posting though.

1) One of the advantages of windfarms is that it's a free and indigenous supply (no-ones gong to 'stop the wind' - the 'price of wind' is not going to fluctuate), its free from the acts of God or the change of govt, in , say Texas, or Rihad).

2)a mistake often made by the anti-windfarm brigade is often to decry the output of power that could be generated by the turbines. But as several sites/documents point out, this is to miss the point. We should not aim to keep the massive output of energy levels as high as they are anyway, and wind energy should be one part of a range of sources of power.

3) perhaps the most telling stat: only 16 people make up over 25% of the anti-wind power lobby. In other words there are a handful of very busy people out there writing in the face of common sense.

Happy Easter!

On BT, Triggers and Broadband

I picked this up on a new media newsletter this morning: "Rural residents are facing long waits for broadband 鈥 even when they have proven to BT that there is enough interest in their locality to make a service viable. Many of the latest batch of villages that BT has pledged to connect will have to wait until 2005 before their DSL link arrives. 鈥淏T has perhaps being caught out by the rapid rise in the rate at which exchanges have triggered, and this has led to some delays in the enabling system to date,鈥 one broadband expert said."

Island Blogging On Tour - Sharks & Whales

Hi Everyone, we're in the final stages of our Island Hopping Blogging Tour.

Apologies to various people that we couldn't meet (Dudebhoy/Snoozing Wind Dragons/Godblog)and thanks to the many that we have.

So far we have travelled to Iona, Mull, Easdale, Seil, Tiree and now Coll. It's great to meet people you've only read entries from.

Richard is gutted the pool table at the Coll Hotel has been taken away, as being ab it of a shark he reckons that this was the main point of the trip. We're hoping to grill Coll Hotel Blog about the real story behind the whale.

Coll & Broadband

Having read the comments from Pondhead and fed up from Fionnphort about Broadband, I'll be contacting BT on return to Glasgow and see if we can get any clarification of where we're at.

I have heard a range of things from 2005 to two years away for the Ross of Mull, and the one thing that's clear from travelling arund is the range of services, exchanges and ISPs combine to make a thick soup of IT infrastructure.

I met Ming the Merciless in the bar last night who has some good insights into all this. Can you explain HASKIES Ming?

thanks to all at the Coll Hotel for their hospitality!

Thick Cut

First of all thanks to Nic the Plant on Coll for her marmalade which I had about half a jar of this morning on toast!

Second, its good to see that swapping bevvy is working 鈥 with Dudebhoy鈥檚 beer recommendations going down a treat on Coll -these are the real benefits of Island Blogging!

Third 鈥 if you鈥檙e a new blogger can you send me your email details as I need to get everyone their questionnaires out?

thanks

Mike
