White rabbits, white rabbits, pink rabbits…

There’s much chat in the office today about a man in Shetland who’s breeding pink bunny rabbits in a bid to capitalise on the ‘pet as fashion accessory’ market. Apparently the colour is achieved by feeding the rabbits beetroot. Anyone know anything about it? And would you want to own one?!

My colleague says she heard it on Radio 2 - so it must be true! ;-)

Did Radio 2 also mention the influx o giant bunny rabbits on Papa Stour? It was in the local rag 2 weeks in a row. And strangely enough, they all turned up at the Lerwick Up Helly Aa.

Radio Orkney had the full story in an investigative report this week. Roger Cook move over!

I heard on Radio Orkney they were Orkney pink rabbits - is this an outbreak we should know about............... MC always fancied a rabbit or two, but the only accessory they were was to the lawn......few rabbits pink or otherwise down here.

I heard it on the radio today. It was Ö÷²¥´óÐã something. Interestingly his wesite and job advertisements have disappeared from the net. If the colour is achieved by feeding them beetroot, then they have been forcefed it, and only it. They will be malnourished and die. I am disgusted with the whole idea. I am even more disgusted that there are no doubt many idiots desperately trying to find out where to get one right now. He has done something to them to make them pink, in no way is that natural, its animal abuse. They are selling at £600, that tells it all.

It was in the Herald so it is true! The breeding pair are fed on a mix of vitamin supplements. When the babies are born it's just their extemities that are pink but they turn pinker as they get older. The breeders say they discovered it by accident, it's all natural and doesn't hurt the rabbits. Saves on all those envromentally bad dyeing agents when turning the rabbit into a lovely pair of fluffy pink boots I suppose

Don't hesitate to wake me up when a Shetland or Orkney breeder develops a line of rabbits with pictures of wind turbines on their rump.
